Welcome to Rootchat.

What exactly do you need help with?

There are a lot of Henry Taylor who died in 1924, but this one could fit

September quarter 1924

Taylor    Henry    70
H.Hempstead    3a   692

On this Certificate  3A 692 it shows him as a female not male, so I am not sure that this is the correct
Certificate.
I would like to know where he is buried in Hemel Hempstead, and I wish to prove the link to my Great Great Great Grandfather Thomas Taylor.
This is the first time I have used Rootschat

Where did you get the 1854 Hitchin birth from, I can't see it on Freebmd?

ADDED: This is probably it, 1855

Births Jun 1855

Taylor    Henry
Hitchin    3a   212

We have a problem here as that Henry was the son of a William, but was the only one born about that time in Hitchin.

1861 RG09  Piece number   819 Folio number   82   Page number   12
Folley, Hitchin, Hertfordshire

William   Taylor   Head    48       Agricultural Labourer   Stevenage, Hertfordshire,
Sarah   Taylor   Wife       49                                       Hitchin, Hertfordshire
George   Marshall   Son In Law   Unmarried    16       Agricultural Labourer   Hitchin,
John   Marshall   Son In Law       13       Agricultural Labourer                           Hitchin
Henry   Taylor   Son    6       Scholar                                              Hitchin
John   Taylor   Nephew   Unmarried    25       Agricultural Labourer   Hertfordshire

Son in law would be the same as step son

Could you say when and where his son, your Great Grandfather, was born, and his name, just so we can confirm him in the censuses?

Thanks

Sorry if I have got it wrong

My Father was John Hubert Taylor born in 1920 Sevenoaks and died in 1999 Oxford.
My Grandfather Stanley Hubert Taylor born in 1894 in Harlow and died in 1964 Oxford.
My Great grand father Henry Taylor born in 1854 or 1855 in Hitchin (as far as I know) died in 1924
Hemel Hempstead.
My Great Great grand father was Thomas Taylor born in 1817 in Lincoln died in 1877 ?
My Great Great Great Grand father was William Taylor born in 1794 in Herefordshire.

If this helps you to help me in anyway I would be most gratefull.

Hi, before we start going too far into this, can you tell us which of these you know for certain ie have certificates that you are sure are correct.

As I said earlier the problem is there seems to be only one Henry Taylor born in Hitchin in 1854/55 and he doesn't have a father Thomas.

Starting from your Grandfather - Stanley Taylor, this looks like his family in 1901

RG13; Piece: 1642; Folio: 9; Page: 10  Harlow

Henry Taylor   47  Brewers engineer & driver     Hitchin
Emma M Taylor           49
Sidney C Taylor           17
Frances J Taylor      9
Stanley Taylor   6                                             Harlow

The problem then comes trying to find this Henry Taylor in an earlier census with father Thomas. How did you link them?

This looks like the marriage of Henry and Maria. It might be worth getting that certificate to see if his father is given as Thomas

Marriages Dec 1877

Wood    Maria

I cannot even find this one:

'My Grandfather Stanley Hubert Taylor born in 1894 in Harlow and died in 1964 Oxford.'

Harlow comes under Epping, so, missing 'Hubert'?

That's the one I found earlier, but if you look at the 1861 census I think his parents are William and Sarah.

Sorry, groom, yes, I was just trying to work backwards, and I agree with you, wrong parents.

There is a fairly obvious line in the censuses for him married with stated wife and  born in Hitchin and then with  mother Sarah and then parents Sarah and William.

Do you think he is the one in the 1901 census with son Stanley? If so I think Slipper007 may have gone wrong with his father being Thomas.

Hi Groom
The marriage Certificate for Henry Taylor to Maria Wood shows William Taylor as father.
Looking at the birth cerificate for Henry Taylor showing Thomas is the wrong one, this appears were I have gone wrong.
Stanley Hubert Taylor is correct.

Ah, now we're getting some where.  ;)

So the 1861 census I gave you with parents William and Sarah looks as if it is the right one. You need to go back to Henry and work back again from there.

Marriages Mar 1852

Marshall    Sarah        Hitchin
Taylor    William        Hitchin
3a   226

I guess that Sarah was either a widow or had two children out of wedlock - shown as stepsons in 1861.

If he died 1924, this could be his death

Sept quarter 1924

Taylor    Henry    70
H.Hempstead    3a   692

I'm afraid I can't help with a burial.
