Could some kind person please help me locate the arrival of Sidney Briant (born 1891) in Canada. I think he travelled with his wife Gertrude in 1921 but have no idea of departure or arrival ports or dates. Many thanks.
Sorry meant to say sailing from England!

There is an ancestry tree which says that Gertrude Paulette Boyce Whitehead/Briant was born 28 June 1892 in St. Mary Cray, Kent, England and passed away 23 September 1985 in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

Wow Sandra you'll have to give me a while to process all this information!
On the census does imm mean their immigration was in 1918 when we have them going in 1921?
Ivygreen
-
Your very welcome. Will keep you busy for a while ;) Yes, 1918 was the date given for immigration.
Perhaps our Run Kitty (RK - is the obit expert in Canada) - might be able to find an obituary for Gertrude in Scarborough Ontario 1985. It might help us to know when Sidney may have passed ???

Hi -
Thanks for the kind words Sandra!! I am blushing away here!!
Gertrude died on the date mentioned in a previous post.... Sept 23 1985 in Scarborough. Wife of the late Sidney Briant. Mother of George and Doug (doesn't say "late", so I assume they are both still alive in 1985). She had grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Interment Prospect Cemetery.

Unfortunately, there are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs. Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further. Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging. As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago. RK, tried but did not have any luck finding an obituary.

Thank you for that information Sandra. I'll have to keep that in mind. Doesn't make researching Canada very easy does it 😀

Hi, I am the great grandson of Sidney & Gertrude Briant, and grandson of George Frederick Briant (1st wife Lillian & 2nd wife Eva). Great Grandpa (Sidney) died in Toronto, 1967.
-
Hi nice to meet you!
My grandmother was Beatrice, sister to Sidney so that makes us second cousins once removed.
Thank you for letting me know when Sidney died. I have a couple of photos which another relative thinks are of Sidney and George. Would you be able to confirm this if I showed you. I can message you my email address if this is okay with you.

Hi Ivy,

Hello ivygreen....
I am interested in finding out more about my family...I want to start checking my father's side soon.
I look forward to getting this started.

Hello, I just came across this site and thread.
I am a UK relation of Paulette, George et al. I met Paulette on my visit to Canada in the early 80s. She was in a nursing/care facility in Toronto. I think I may even have some very old photos from when she was married.
I'd welcome any dialogue! My father researched the family, but I only have names on the back of photos to help me understand the wider tree.
-
Hi nice to hear from you.
How are you related to Paulette? My grandmother Beatrice was a sister of Sidney. I would love to see any photos you may have and I have some I could share with you as well as more information on the Briant family in general.
You need to post three times before we can use direct messaging and exchange email addresses so we can just chat on here until then :)

Hello Ivy,
She was my great Aunt, I think! My paternal grandad's (William, known as Bill) sister. I will pull the photos out as it may help clarify things for me too. I will do another reply here, and I guess I can message you then. I can tell you my maiden name then, and check if you know my sibling.
-
Hi Ivy
Paulette had a sister called Lottie? She emigrated to NZ. I hope I am recalling this all correctly.
