Post by: tempogold on Wednesday 12 August 15 14:21 BST (UK)
Victoria Hurst was b 4 Apr 1900 in Enniskillen ,Co Fermanagh Ireland . I don't know when she came to England but in 1926 she married at  Betchworth  in Surrey , a  George Cole Lovegrove .She was living in Reigate at the time and he Betchworth. He was 47 and a bachelor . Born  1879 IN Kensington London and dies Sept 1964 in Reading.
But what of Victoria ,I can not find her death cert . Would also be interested to learn if they had any children.
Any information would be much appreciated .

Hello all
I have come to the conclusion that George Ide ( your note Rosie) and George Cole Lovegrove are the same person.  The surrey marriage record for Victoria and George shows  them  as George Ide Lovegrove but with the same parents as on the census returns for George Cole--confusing .
Looking to see if a will which might help.

That 1964 death in Reading of George Lovegrove, looks like it's someone else
The local indexes for Reading are online on Berkshire BMD
Deaths in 1964
George Isaac Lovegrove, age 86
and also indexed as Isaac George Lovegrove

Ditto in the GRO death index
Sep 1964, Reading 6a 107
Lovegrove, George I. (age 86)
Lovegrove, Isaac G. (age 86)

Is Ide a misreading of Cole?

The GRO index has him as George C Lovegrove.  I think Ide is an Ancestry mistranscription.  Having looked at the certificate it does say Cole and he has signed his name as such.

I can't see them returning to the UK?
Only leaving on the Durham Castle (departed 17 May 28)
Country of Intended Future Permanent Residence - S. Africa

which could explain why you can't find them here afterwards

Still catching up --thanks Rosie and Jon . So they may have intended living in South Africa but he comes back and dies Reading  . But what I cant understand is why we can not find his wife Victoria's death record . Did she die South Africa or  Did she remarry?
Have ordered the wills of two of her sisters Mary Elizabeth Hurst who died 22 March 1966 Worthing and the eldest of her sisters born 1890. Also will of  Muriel Moore Hurst d 17 Dec 1982 Worthing her youngest sister born 1903. Might be easier to order his death cert .
Another family mystery--I seem to have rather a lot but keeps the brain ticking over .
Many thanks' for all the help.

This is very Strange . Just found a tree with only them on it but no records or other information  that says George Dies 1962 South Africa and Victoria After that. Not sure what the form is Rosie--does this now need to be moved  to the South African Board ?

Hello again. Progress of sorts . Have Just found an incoming record for George Lovegrove from Mombasa Kenya.
Arrives 2 Aug 1957 . Ships record says for 2 months. DOB is 8 dec 1878 which ties in on his Baptism record. Have not found him going back yet. Wish it was easier to access records from Africa.

Hi
Yes, you are right he came on the Kenya Castle
It says he is Single ("Widowed or divorced to be entered as single")

Address in the United Kingdom - "Shillong" Beach Ave. Barton, Hants
From telephone directories in the fifties, an Edgar E Sharland is listed at that address (tel. New Milton 1078)
Edgar Eaton Sharland died in 1960, there is probate for him. Executors Margaret Mary Sharland, widow and Margaret Ella Sharland, spinster
Do you know who they all are?

Could George Lovegrove have flown back to Africa?
Unless there is a mistake on the passenger list, Victoria either died before August 1957 or they were divorced?

Hi Jon
Had missed the single bit . Sorry no idea who these folks are . as far as I know George only had one nephew Arthur Baynard Lovegrove so don't think its direct family. None of Victoria s sisters had children so no clues there .

I would think it could be an idea to post a new thread on SA board looking for information on the couple and give a link to this thread.  You just need to know what happened to them after their marriage.  I can't see anything on familysearch and don't know where else to look for SA.

Sorry I took a while to reply, dog was taking up much of my time yesterday  ::)

Hopefully someone will give you a good link for SA records that help with your other family too.
I am afraid that my dog is destined for the removal of his boy bits next week in the hope it will permanently stop ongoing prostate problems.  ::)
