Title: Looking for elusive ancestors please
Post by: Gibby1968 on Wednesday 19 August 15 16:02 BST (UK)
I am trying to find the parents of the following;

Mary Fowler (1786-1837) became my 4x great grandmother when she married William Valentine Winterton 1806.  Mary was born Greetham and died in Empingham, Rutland.

Charles Duncombe (born 1784 North Luffenham, my 4x great grandfather) married Catherine Morris 1811.

I'm sorry I can't give you anymore info but I would be grateful for any help you can give me, thanks.

Charles Duncombe (born 1784 North Luffenham, my 4x great grandfather) married Catherine Morris 1811.

Is this the Charles Duncombe who was living in Exton, Rutland (close to North Luffenham) from at least 1841? I'm guessing this is the case as a Catherine Duncombe was buried there in 1827. if so, the 1851 census suggests Charles was born in York.

A John Duncomb, baptised at York in 1785, son of Charles and Rose (nee Harton) Duncomb, may be a brother; as might other children baptised around then with father Charles Duncum.

Charles Duncombe was born in Rutland as were his children.

His daughter Sophia married George Winterton and is my 3x great grandmother.

Hi - not corresponded for quite a while - I,m still searching Dexters!

There is a William R Morris b 1809 N Luff on 1851 census for N Luff.  He is a Farmer and Maltster employing 30 labourers on 630 acres.
His wife is Catherine K Morris b 1813 Leicester
Daughter Catherine K Morris b 1849 N Luff.
There are listed also a Cook, a nurse , a Housemaid and 2 Farm labourers.
Could these belong to your family?
Will keep looking for Duncombs but no luck so far.

No idea if they're my family but I'll keep the information for future reference, thanks.

Was going through my ancestry tree yesterday and was looking at the gaps in my nearer ancestors (people who I know are my family) rather than working through the mountain of people I haven't a clue who they are ???

I find it difficult to search for folk I have little information on.

Were you looking for Robert Dexter, husband of Rosetta Winterton from Syston?  I'm looking for concrete information, but research I have done so far seems to indicate he died in 1914.

If you remember I found Robert in Syston some time ago but I dont have any more info on him.
I was like you looking for Robert Dexter b 1837 Stretton and his parents Robert and Mary.
Still haven't got any more info.  Like you I am concentrating on who I know are family.
Best of luck with your searches.
