I am trying to ascertain if the J Staples living at 27 Bishopgate Street Liverpool North in 1949 is Jane? Any help would be welcome .. Thanx

Hiya John and a warm welcome to Rootschat - you have posted this thread on the Cheshire board - it should be on the Lancashire board - a moderator will move it for you so that people from the right County will be able to see your post ...

Hi John,
Welcome to RootsChat. I have just moved your post to Lancashire which covers Liverpool,

Where did this address come from? Was it from a certificate? You could look at the address on the electoral register. If you can't visit the Liverpool Record Office they may be willing to do a quick look-up on the 1949 register:-

I have a road atlas of Lancashire from the early 1930s with a very detailed index of streets. There is no Bishopgate Street but a BishopSgate Street, off Picton Road, Wavertree, not exactly north Liverpool.
Kelly's Directory dated 1968 spells it your way and has numbers running from 1 to 124 but oddly no entry for no. 27.
Sorry I have nothing between those dates.

Thank you both I got the address off a death certificate. I believe it is my great grandfather the informant is J Staples daughter this would tie in if it is Jane. I am in Hastings on the south coast so popping in to take a look is not quite that easy lol. But I will ask. Thanks again john

Kelly's Directory 1938 have this address as Bishopgate Street Wavertree (15) ie Liverpool 15. In 1938 there was a Henry Challinor living at number 27. Odds were 1-123 and evens were 2-122. The house is still there, off Picton Road.
