Hi there,
Did your chap seek to become naturalised? If so, his application should include not just when he arrived, but the ship of arrival, and his date of birth, place of birth etc.

Hi there
The newspaper expanded article of 1902, says he was visiting a friend on the ship at the Port Adelaide wharves but not arriving on it.
Is this him do you think?

Date of arrival in Australia is not known.
In the early 1900s Pon Pack Quon was a banana merchant associated with the Geraldton Fruit Company in Adelaide's East End Market (note: Geraldton was the original name of Innisfail, Qld).
He was a member of the 潘 (Poon, Pon, or Pun in Cantonese dialect) family clan.
It is believed Poon Gooey was a cousin, a valuable clue to his origin in China: http://chineseaustralia.org/tag/poon-gooey/
There is a portrait of Pon Pack Quon (probably a wedding photo from 1904) at http://www.chia.chinesemuseum.com.au/objects/D001603.htm
In 1913 with his brothers Daniel Num and Poon Sam Wah he opened a short-lived Chinese restaurant, the "Canton Cafe", in Grote St, Adelaide - see news article at https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/59733694
and also https://trove.nla.gov.au/list?id=97822
A copy of the menu is held by family members.
