Title: Scanning old negatives?

I've got some rather old negatives which I think belonged to my Great Grandfather, so they could have been taken between about 1900 and 1970 and I'm rather curious to know what is on them. I've seen some articles on-line saying that you can scan old negatives onto a computer but was wondering if this would damage old negatives and make it impossible to develop them later on?

If you have the negatives they are already developed. Scanning is unlikely to affect the ability to print them.  As you would have a scan it's also unlikely that you'd want to print them in the traditional photographic sense. You could just print from your scan rather than the negative.
