Title: Canal history programme on BBC1
Post by: andrewalston on Thursday 03 September 15 19:38 BST (UK)
I was away last Friday, so missed the transmission of a programme on BBC1 called "Canals - The Making of a Nation", in the slot usually occupied by "A Question of Sport".
The series of six programmes includes one about boat people.

Amazingly, according to iPlayer, ALL SIX programmes were transmitted simultaneously at 19:30. It must be true - Radio Times lists QoS in that slot for the previous Friday, and for tomorrow too.

Did anyone see the programme live? Which one did you catch?

I got the impression that last Friday's were transmitted as regional programmes, but in addition they're all being transmitted in a weekly series which began this week on BBC4.

I downloaded them onto iPlayer, and have watched the first one this evening.

Mention was made of the Foulridge Tuunnel - I have people on the 1851 census, living in Foulridge, working in the cotton industry.
