Title: Lost my Smile!

Not really, but I've lost the Smilies on Rootschat on my iPad, as well as all the other options such as Bold, italic , font face etc. I'm sure they were there yesterday. They are there on the laptop. I've tried logging out and back in again, but that didn't work.

All I can see is Subject:
                      Message icon:
                      The box for typing

Any idea how I get them back?

Fear not - you are not alone.  I've lost them as well and it's not just on my iPad - desk top pc as well.

They are not there at the time of replying but if you use the modify button - they come back

No, the modify doesn't get them back, either. 😪
Ah, I can insert them from the smilie icon on the keypad, but that obviously doesn't give me the other options. 😹

Just tried using Safari as my browser and they are there, so it seems to be something to do with Google Chrome on the iPad. They are there with Chrome on the laptop.

Mine have gone too.  Been gone for a few weeks. I put it down to Windows 10 for the laptop, and "just being awkward" for the tablet (because it often is!)

Don't think it is Windows 10 as I have that on the laptop and so far it is fine there. I can live without the Smilies, but not having the others eg the quote button is a nuisance.

Don't know if anyone saw this and rectified it, or if the Smilies were on their Summer holidays. Glad to see them anyway, I missed them.  ;) ;D

As you said Jan they are on safari but not google chrome - and now I've lost the google chrome app somewhere, its just disappeared.  Doesn't help that I'm a  "technophobe"  ::)

Well I have them on iPad with safari, but I just got a message " the server is under to much pressure to show all unread posts"

Let's see if there is a pattern to this to get you smiling again :)

What device are you not seeing smilies on, and what operating system & version is it running? What browser, and version number are you running?

When did this behaviour begin?

Does it always happen?

Does it happen when your on your own home wifi and when you're not (or does it happen when you are connected one way or another)

Can you see other people's smilies in their posts? Here's one from me: :)

Im on a tablet, same as yesterday.
Yesterday I had smilies.
At the moment I havent. (Sad face, just picture it, I cant put one here)
Cant think of anything different!  Havent changed anything.

Well, they are certainly playing hide and seek! I updated the iPad, checked and there they were. I went to another thread, came back here to report they'd returned, only to find they'd gone again! Its not just the smilies but also the other buttons eg bold, font face, quotes.

What device are you not seeing smilies on, and what operating system & version is it running? What browser, and version number are you running?

Not seeing them on iPad Air, running iOS9. Using Google Chrome version 45.0.2454.89
   They are there if I use Safari as the browser, but I don't really like that!

Using the laptop, with Windows10 and Google Chrome, same version 45.0.2454.85, which has just updated so I presume is the latest version. Touch wood, no problems on laptop.  ;) :D ;D Very weird.

Same thing happened to me earlier as to groom.
They had re-appeared. But by the time I got to this thread to report it, they had gone again..

None at the moment...

And yes, it is all the Bold/font/stuff as well.

Trystan, problem is intermittent really. I am a firefox girl. Not using ipad or mobiles for a little while for RC. Comes up most often for me these last few days on PMs rather than main posts...but then, I go back and they are there  :D

If it helps eliminate anything, I'm on a desktop PC, using Windows 10, and IE 11 and have all the smilies, bold, font etc :)

Does it always happen?: yes

Does it happen when your on your own home wifi and when you're not (or does it happen when you are connected one way or another) : on home wifi not known not tried on another computer

Thank you all for your comments - it's so very useful. Thank you too for being so very patient too - that's even more appreciated.

I've not been able to get down to finding what the actual problem is, but I've now made some very minor changes to see it it improves things.

Let me know if it works :)

Still missing for me!  It can't be Windows 10 as I have them on the laptop but not the iPad. I can see them when others post, they just don't want to play with me.  ;D ;D

I sometimes have really crazy hilarious things up on screen when on RC.  Things like other people's atavars all over the page - sometimes 2 or 3 smilies all around the border of the page, and sometimes someone sitting right in the middle of a post that I'm reading! 

If I take  screenshot of it, can't post it as I can't change the name of it.  all prefixed "Image" then a number and RC won't accept that prefix. 

Next time I my page comes up funny, I'll take a screenshot, then send it to myself and pick it up on PC.

When it first happened, I thought I was having hallucinations! LOL

That's good to know I'm not the only one!  I've got used to them now, but they're not visiting me tonight!  Sometimes there is one person's avatar that attaches itself to every post I pull up!  But the messages themselves aren't affected! 

Never lost the smilies though, and as I mentioned, sometimes they form a border right around the screen!

I think I've found the little gremlin that kept on borrowing the smilies.

I've now fed the gremlin, and so the smilies have come back again :)

Let me know if they have reappeared again for you. You may need to 'refresh' your browser by pressing the function key "F5" or by going to the menu on your browser and press the symbol that says "Reload this page". I've make a screenshot of the symbol in Google Chrome.

If you use a tablet/mobile for browsing, you can refresh the page by dragging your finger downwards when you're at the top of the webpage already.

Thank you Trystan, they are back on the iPad. I didn't realised how much I missed them until they'd gone - I hope they enjoyed their holiday.  ;D. I'm so pleased they are back before Christmas, I'd have hated to have not been able to use those jolly little ones.  ;)

Diddy,

If press the Refresh button on the page where you expect to see the smilies then they may come back. You may need to close all other tabs or browser windows first (not just minimise them).

Must be Edge that is the problem diddymiller.

I am using that at the mo on laptop, and although the smileys/bold/italic/ etc are all there (unlike on the tablet when they didn't exist anymore) they do not respond at all for me!

Yes, you can several different browsers, just download the one you want. I use Chrome on the laptop with Windows10 and the smilies there have always been very happy, it was just the ones on the iPad that disappeared.

You need to open Rootschat using that browser. Which means if you were looking at sites on Edge, you'd need to come out of that back to the desktop, open up Chrome (or browser of your choice) and then open up Rootschat.

I'm not sure, presumably you have RC as a short cut from Edge? Perhaps someone a bit more technically minded will know.

I've tried to refresh as suggested but no change. * bamboozled face*

I'm going to miss these emoticons as I felt they always added tone and warmth to posts *crying face*

What browser do you use, Looby? Mine were still there when I upgraded to Windows10 on the laptop - I use Chrome on that. However they went missing on the iPad where I also use Chrome. Luckily Trystan sorted it and they are fine on both now. Just as well as the Santa ones should arrive soon and I'd really miss those.  ;D

Thanks for the reply . As you can see I have made my own smiles thanks to your advice ;D .
Will miss the Santa faces though :(

Oh and btw....my user name is  Loobylooayr  shortened to Looby not Loopy  although after wrestling with the smiley problem I do feel a bit Loopy :D

I have also discovered while composing this reply that I no longer can use any of the panel - I can't use bold or italic type, I can't underline or cross out , I can't change font size or colour.

What a pity *would make a crying face but I don't know how *
