Hi yokel
Thanks for the info, but I think it is the wrong one. Do you know if I can see any wills?
Many thanks Carol.

Hi Carol

You might be able to find some wills here

http://www.norfolksources.norfolk.gov.uk/DserveNS/

click on the Probate button then enter your search.

Do you have some more information that makes you think that those two Frances' are the wrong ones?

The Freereg website http://freereg2.freereg.org.uk/search_queries/new has this baptism for a daughter Frances. Her father is called William so she may be one of yours.

County   Norfolk
Place   Terrington St Clement
Church name   St Clement
Register type   Archbishops Transcripts
Baptism date   25 Jul 1802
Person forename   Frances
Person sex   F
Father forename   William
Father surname   GENT
Mother forename   Mary
Mother surname   BATES

I've just looked at the reply from Yokel and he has the same Frances-his is an original while mine is a transcript.

Is the Francis you are looking for a son?

I'm glad it's your Frances. If you look at Yokel's 1st link you can see the original baptism record.
I can only find 2 more baptisms for William and Mary-John on 7th Oct 1798 and William on 15th April 1804.
At the same time Thomas and Eleanor Gent and John Gent and his wife,Mary Sutcliffe were baptising children. There was also Mary Gent who had 4 illegitimate children.

Hi Jan.
I have come across the Gents you have mentioned, but i don't think they are mine I have to do a lot of double checking as there are so many and they are all called William.
Thanks Carol.

It looks as though William Gent and Mary Bates only baptised 3 children-John, Frances and then William.
They married in 1796- though maybe you know that already.
County   Norfolk
Place   Terrington St Clement
Church name   St Clement
Register entry number   313
Marriage date   10 Mar 1796
Groom forename   William
Groom surname   GENT
Groom condition   Bachelor
Groom parish   Terrington St Clement
Bride forename   Mary
Bride surname   BATES
Bride condition   Spinster
Bride parish   Terrington St Clement
Witness1 forename   Elizabeth
Witness1 surname   BATES
Witness2 forename   John
Witness2 surname   OCKLEY

Thomas, John and Mary Gent -who were also baptising children at the same time as William may have been his cousins or even second cousins  but it certainly looks as though Frances was a family name-as well as the 2 Yokel found there was another baptised to James Gent in 1785. It wasn't a common name then, so I suspect all the Gents were related in some way.
