Trying to work out the place of birth on this baptism "Norsham Moor". Do you think it could be Newsham? Baptism for Thomas Steel Metcalf son of Cornelius Metcalf and Jane Steel.
Thank you in advance.
There is a family association with Blyth.

Didn't upload with attachment. Here it is:

Norham... penny's dropping. By the Borders.

he he, isn't it odd how you can't 'see' something till you ask, then it falls into place?
I've done that time after time :-)
I'd go for Norham too.

Google Maps and Genuki are very helpful when you are on the opposite side of the world!
Thanks Ticketyboo ;D you are correct. I was just looking too in terms of where his parents would have married.

The baptism you've attached is from PRO piece 2482. There is also a baptism under piece 1402 which confirms the Norham Moor assumption -

There was a daughter Mary Archibald Metcalf baptised at Ancroft, Haggerstone Castle Chapel (Catholic), Sponsors: James Hunter & Nancy Steel. Born 13 July 1801. Later had an Anglican baptism in 1808 at Earsdon.
I am looking for the marriage of the parents Cornelius Metcalf and Jane Steel. I know nothing of Jane Steel's birth or death, but I think I have her husband's. I know Catholic marriages can be difficult to find. I suppose I should transfer this to the Northumberland Look Ups.
Thank you so much for that last post. I appreciate it.

Hi
The Anglican baptism of Mary and her brother Joseph list her mother Jane Steel from the parish of Norham and Cornelius from Ford Parish.

Oh thank you Claire. How brilliant :)
Thomas Steel Metcalf must have died in childhood as no conversion to Anglicanism.
Mary Archibald Metcalf (aka Maria) was the first child 1801 and then Thomas Steel Metcalf 1805, both born in Norham. Joseph Metcalf 1808, Mary again (Anglican) 1808, and Jane Metcalf 1810 at Earsdon.
Jane Metcalf (1810) is my direct ancestor. Just listed as "by his wife" in the baptism.
So we know from the baptisms that Cornelius is a Sailor/Mariner a native of Ford and that Jane Steel was a native of Norham.

The baptism of Thomas Metcalf born Norham Moor 29 Jan 1805 and baptised 11 Mar 1805 was in the Berwick Our Lady and St. Cuthbert R.C. Church. sponsors Thomas Steel, Anne Steel
No burials from 1801 to 1812 in Norham, Berwick, or Cornhill for any Metcalf

Thank you for that additional information and consideration in searching for burials.
The associated godparents seem to be Nancy Steel, Thomas Steel and Ann/Anna Steel. I imagine her father must have been Thomas.
Nothing coming up on Family Search as they have some of the Catholic marriages.
