Hi
I am trying to trace a part of my father-in-law's family tree.
William Richard Memery (my father-in law's GGGF) was born in Dublin in c. 1816 (anyone have anything on his birth? and parents?). William married Susan (surname unknown). We don't know the date or location of their marriage and we only have some limited details of their children:
Betsey (b. 8 July 1841)
Mary Ann (b. 29 December 1843) - my father-in law's GGM
William Richard (b. 6 January 1846)
William Richard Memery (b. c. 1816) died Q4, 1879, Dublin South, 2, 522.
Any help filling in any gaps would be very gratefully appreciated.
p.s. my father-in-law believes that the Memery's of Dublin may have originally hailed from Devon. So any help going back further into William Richard's family tree would be most interesting.

Don't have time to look just now but suggest you try this site http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
This could be of interest

Cheers Sinann for the links
The second link looks like a potential cousin. There are 2 known William Richard Memery's in the tree we are following - the one born in c. 1816 and his son born in 1846.

Hi
Take a look at these old postings re the Memery Family from Ringsend....

Thanks a lot for the help. So, we have a rather thuggish fisherman in the family! At least at one point in his life. And thanks for picking up on the possible alternative surname spelling. The entry for Betsey has confirmed William's occupation which was news to us and ties into the prison record. Interestingly my father-in-law has a newspaper article about Ringsend and its ties through fishermen to SW England (and Devon in particular). Mary Ann (b. 1843) daughter of William Richard went on to marry John Gray. The Gray and Memery families were believed to hail from Devon and to have arrived in Ringsend as a result of the fishing industry links. This information helps to cement that view.

There is a Burial of a Christopher age 1 and a half in 1851, but I can't see his baptism,

And another Christopher a few years later, need to check the original for his age ( can't see it properly on iPad) but it's an unusual name so worth keeping note of.

Thanks Sinann

Thanks Sinann, these wills look promising. Certainly the one for William ties in with the known quarter date of his death in 1879, and so one assumes Susan's will listd here is that of his wife. Are these wills accessible? We live in England.
-
Yes, the will entries for William and Susan have them both last living on Cambridge Road, Ringsend, with son William being an executor to his father's will.
-
Family Search will throw up a lot of results
Try using Mem?ry
Not finding William and Susan's marriage though.
I'd need to check but from memory wills that early don't survive.
-
Given that William seems to be the first instance that I can see of tgecsurname in Ireland have you looked into the possibility of him being born and married in England.

Thanks for all the interesing links. A lot to look through for sure. Still no closer to finding William Richard and Susan's mariage and her surname. But maybe the solution lies in Devon somewhere.

Hi
(Apologies if I sent this already but its not appearing in my sent box)
I am researching this family also. I have had a lot of trouble establishing the surname of William Richard Memery's (b 1816) wife. Have you a record for Creese? Thanks
Margaret
