Hi All.
Having completed, Cadder Cemetery & Baldernock Cemeteries, I have now embarked on my next project. This is to photograph the above cemetery and place all the names I come across into a searchable database, which will eventually go to East Dunbartonshire Archives.
As far as size goes I think it's on a par with Cadder Cemetery, so it should take me about a year to complete. I've already started, taking in the first two rows, (section 1) which has given me just over 300 names.
I will do a section at a time. Once a section is completed I will post a list of surnames that appear in that section.
Like my last projects, I will look up details for anyone that wants them and I will also send photographs (free) to any of your past relatives I come across. What I would like is stories about the people who are in the cemetery. These can either be posted here, or on this Facebook Page I have created to detail my progress.

Another 203 photos this morning and I have almost half of section 1 complete.
-
That is section one complete. I took 1,391 photographs and recorded the details of 1,989 people. Most of this section headstones started in the 1920's & 1930's. Of the names taken, 47 were recorded as having died as the result of military action.
The top post on the Facebook Page gives the list of all the surnames that appear in that section (over 700)
https://www.facebook.com/New-Kilpatrick-Cemetery-Bearsden-1039212269456324/?ref=hl
-
Im half way through section 2. So far I have transcribed the details of 3,349 people. I have now photographed all the headstones in Sections 1, 2 & 3.
All look ups/ requests as free, as are any requests for photographs.

Thankies Chris.

I have now completed Section 11. I only have half of section 12 and the whole of section 13 to photograph to complete the cemetery.
So far I've photographed 6,531 headstones from which I have recorded the details of 10,119 souls.
Once complete I will hand the database over to EDC archives at Kirkinittloch library. I will in the meantime still offer lookups on here and on the Facebook page for the cemetery which can be found here...
https://www.facebook.com/HillfootCemetery
All lookups and photos of headstones are free on request.
Chris

I have now completed the cemetery. In total I have transcribed the names of 12,098 people from the headstones.
The information will be given to EDC Archives at the Library in Kirkintilloch. I will continue to do lookups and supply photos to those that need them.

Hello Chris
What an amazing piece of work to have undertaken! I wonder if you could check for a burial for George Walker who died on 7 December 1896 and his baby daughter Mary Rennie Walker who died a week later, on 16 December 1896. Sadly George took his own life, aged just 44 and the little one died of TB. How did his poor wife cope? If there is a stone I would very much appreciate a photograph. George was a cousin of my late father-in-law. Very many thanks. isk

Hi Chris,
I admire your commitment to such phenomenal research! I wonder during your transcription of names whether you came across a grave for James B. Campbell who died in 1986 while resident apparently at New Kilpatrick. He was a son of James Campbell (1890-1950) and Mary Marcella Campbell nee Beirne (1892-19620.
Thanks in anticipation.

Just wondering if you came across any members of the Brash family?
Thanks,

Thank you so much for looking this up for me.... I suppose there may have been a burial without a headstone for David Currie ?
The report of the burial at Hillfoot was from his son ( my father, now deceased) so I had assumed it to be correct.
Thanks again.

There can be so many reasons why I haven't taken a picture of it. I could have missed it, It may be lying face down, the words cannot be read or there is no stone. Only way for you to know for sure is to contact East Dunbartonshire Cemeteries office and give the name and date of the death. They should be able to assist you. Chris

Hi Chris,
It would be great to get a photo or transcription of the LEES headstone if possible.
I think it might belong to an Ulster Lees family who settled in New Kilpatrick I've been researching as part of my surname project focusing on Northern Irish Lees.
Thanks!

Hello Chris, firstly what a fantastic project to undertake, and thank you for doing it.
I wonder if you anything about common or pauper graves in the church yard for those who couldn't afford a headstone, particularly back in the 1800s. Might there have have been burial records even if not a plot marked as a common grave?

Hi there,
There are records held within the Archives at East Dunbartonshire Council. I have not been through them, but Im sure the staff at Kirkintilloch Library will be able to assist you. Theres certainly nothing at the gravesite that has that kind of information.

Hello Chris
I would like to ask if you have any Mooneys in your records from this church? In particular Hugh Mooney died 1939. He may share this grave with his wife Mary.
Thanks for your hardwork.

Hi Hugh,
This sounds vaguely familiar,
I think I briefly mentioned this in another thread reply without giving detail.
If this is the same Hugh and Mary I think they are buried in St Kentigern's
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJ9-KQ9N?i=227&cat=1321853 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJ9-KQ9N?i=227&cat=1321853)
Maybe Chris has a note from there?

Thanks for your reply, i was away and so am i bit late in replying.
Thanks for looking that up, Hugh could be right, he died on the 2nd of April 1939.
Mary died on the 21st of June but she was born in 1862 and the record says age was 45. What do you think? The age was maybe entered wrongly or they are different people.
This would be a logical place for them to be buried, Marys mother and sister are here and i was visiting here just a few months ago.
Hmm!
EDIT: Just looked at the daily intern books and i can see from the addresses these are in fact the people i am looking for! Thanks for the help, clearly they have the wrong age for Mary!
-
Ah that's good there's a match up. I had a quick look at the link again, the number 4s written on the page look different from in the age given for Mary. I think this could be a 7 and Mary's age is 75 which would be close.
Cheers
