This George Rogers seems an interesting character. He is showing in 1891 as the Grandson of an Edward and Ann Edwards, yet his mother seems to be Edward's daughter Margaret. It seems the Margaret Edwards was to marry a Thomas Evans at Wrexham St Giles in 1894.I was only looking at the Evans family as I'd seen further info about their son Maurice born c 1900.I don't know where the Rogers Surname comes into the mix.lol

Birth certificate would confirm his parentage - or at least half of it!
Was Margaret a spinster when she married Thomas Evans?
Could be that Rogers was the fathers name or maybe even grannies maiden name - birth certificate would enlighten things 8)

There's a WW1 record for George Edward (which is how he appears in 1901 as stepson) Rogers mother Margaret Rogers - Royal Welsh Fusiliers but can't say if this is the same person :-\
-
Ah in 1891 Margaret is Margaret Rogers married.

Yes it does seem the same George Edward Rogers in 1901 showing with my Maurice Evans!I'm also struggling to find earlier info of the Edward and Ann Edwards? It was only last night I found all this info after being in the Rhosymedre Resource Centre of Clwyd FHS in the morning looking at the further info of Maurice showing his Father as the Thomas Evans. It seems another trip Tuesday is on the cards.lol

Thanks Colin,it seems the plot thickens! It seems Margaret and Joseph married at Rhosymedre Church in 1882.

So what happened to Joseph and where was he in 1891 when wife and child are with her family :-X
There are a few Joseph Rogers boarding with other families but they are down as single and coal miners.
Should say that Margaret is Margaret Jane in 1901 not Margaret Anne.

Joseph Rogers is given as 22 when he marries Margaret in 1882.There is a death of a Joseph Rogers that would fit in 1885.

Only death in the county.
ROGERS JOSEPH 1860 Q/1891 Death registered St. Asaph, Denbighshire,
Colin
-
The burial in 1885 was 8 March, abode Brook St Brymbo, so unlikely to be the father of George.
Colin
-
You may be right Colin? No sign of Joseph earlier?

It was Brook Street , Wrexham and he was 26. If you are looking at FindMyPast , then they often have St Giles, Wrexham as Brymbo . It is a mistake.

Yes you have opened a can of worms here ;D
The middle name change for Margaret is worrying me and if she is the same Margaret Rogers that married Thomas Evans (and Joseph Rogers has legitimately passed away) why is she marrying under Margaret Edwards - have you sight of the marriage to Thomas Evans - is she claiming to be a spinster or widow etc?
It seems the Margaret Edwards was to marry a Thomas Evans at Wrexham St Giles in 1894.
I can't see a Thomas Evans marriage to a Margaret in Wrexham 1894 (on BMD)
Sorry have it now registered Mar 1895
Margaret Jane Edwards

It seems I'll have to book myself in to the AN Palmer Centre at Wrexham later this week to view the 1894 marriage,Clwyd FHS only have them transcribed up to 1823.

It seems as though he had two stints in the army, first for one year 1908-1909, his mother noted as Margaret Evans 35, Church Street, Rhosymedre, Cefn, Wrexham, Denbighshire, as per the 1901/1911 census where he is present.
Then 1915-1918, the record is sparse but he did not seem to be in the best of health. He was for a time in Manchester and in hospital in Sheffield towards the end of the war.

The 1894 Marriage details may help with Margaret's earlier Census info.I think the George though whist very interesting is going a bit too sideways for me as my main concern was the Maurice Evans born c 1900.

I am of the opinion that Margaret was the mother of George and the father was Joseph, the marriage ended and they both remarried. I have later details for Joseph but I think that may be irrelevant.
I think some porkies might have been told along the way. The information below might help.
