Is anyone able to help me trace my Mum's old school? I am looking for any information, a photo would be wonderful! She went to Rothesay House School ,Frenchay Rd, off the Woodstock Rd, Oxford. She attended in the late 1940's to the early 1950's. It was a private school and she was a boarder. I have only found one piece of info on the net regarding an ex teacher who was a poet. If anyone can suggest anything or direct me to somewhere I'd be very grateful.

Kellys gives the address as 189 Woodstock Rd. Looks like the rear extension of the property was used as the school. Hi, I just Googled to find out more about the school and saw your query. My mother and some of her sisters went there, my mother in the late twenties/early thirties, I have a book which was given to her as a prize with a Rothesay house School bookplate 1931. Only the youngest of her sisters is still alive and i'm not sure that she went there. I can ask her if she has any info, what sort of things were you wanting to know?

The Bodlean Library, Oxford, holds a photographic archive of Oxford and also an oral history archive. I found both very useful when researching an ancestor who was caretaker at a girls school in Bradmore Road.

Thanks for your reply, I will check the library out. I have managed to find an image on Google Maps but am unsure if this is the same building as the school. I will have to send it to my Mum and see if it rings any bells!

Hi Igrowald, Thank you for your reply. How amazing that your mum and sisters went there too. I was really after a photo of the school as it was in the past. Mum says the headmistress was Mrs Edith Salkeld. Mum and her friend were once caught by her in oxford eating ice cream while in school uniform and got into terrible trouble!!!Mum remembers one or two names of people there at the same time as her and I am trying to just get any information I can.

Did you find out any more information about Rothesay House please? My mother was a pupil there from 1950 or 1951.

Hello, I note that this is an old query but if anyone's still interested I happen to live in this property - in what I suspect may have been the headmistress's private study/apartment as most of the Victorian interior is still pretty much intact (including, unfortunately, the plumbing). I'd be happy to take a few photos if you're still interested.
