I'm looking for any information on a Jane Murtha (or similar spelling)
When she married in Victoria Australia in 1872, her marriage entry says she was 23 ( born 1849) and was born in what looks like Kinsilsoe County Kildare. Her parents were William Murtha and Eliza Welch.
Any help would be appreciated

Any idea what religion Jane Murtha was?

I wonder if it could be Kilshanchoe.

Ah!!!! I think she was Roman Catholic, I'm reasonably sure her husband's family were Catholics and I know her eldest daughter was a devout Catholic --- but Jane and her husband Joseph Garrett were married in a Presbyterian Church in Australia.!!!!!
The copy of the marriage entry I have is rather faint. I think the place starts "Kin" and ends "soe"
Thanks for the speedy replies

I see there is a very well known, old established, family name of Kinsella in Kildare, but they don't seem to have had a place named after them.

There was a Jane Murtha born to a William and Betty (variant of Eliza) in 1846 in Kilshanroe.
You can see it above.

Many thanks Tara.
That looks like the lady I was looking for and her sisters. I wonder how many of the family went to Australia? I've had a quick look at the Victoria State incoming passenger records but didn't see Jane, but I didn't try all the different spellings of the surname.
I will have a look through the parish register details you sent and see if I can find the parent's marriage as the next step.
Thank you again
