Looking for any information on Elizabeth James born Pontrhydfendigaid 1876 daughter of Robert James Blacksmith who died prior to 1908 when she married George Bayes in Kensington. Does not appear on any censuses prior to 1911 when she is married and living in Grovesend near Pontardulais . Quite a mystery. Regards

Did you get her fathers name from her marriage cert? If you can't find her on any census from 1881-1901 have you considered she may have been illegit and made up a fathers name when she married?

I think you need to take a look at the 1911 image re: number of years married

George Rodney Bayes married 1908 - you are looking at a 1911 image for George Robert Bayes but his details tie in with Rodney

I do think the info on the marriage certificate is wrong and George Robert Bayes is George Rodney.
The Lizzy James daughter of Robert James married another person not George Bayes and stayed in the Cardigan Area. This Robert James died 1915 the Robert on Certificate had died before 1908. I have gone down this line, spent a week in the Aberyswyth Library even visited/took pictures Robert James grave in Ponrhydyfendigaid. Been trying to solve this since 2013. Nothing seems to make sense! Regards

Hi Elizabeth has certainly been a problem for me as well, have you possibly checked out the Elizabeth Morris aged 4 shown as Grandaughter with a Margaret Morris in 1881, oddly enough on next page to Robert James occ Blacksmith?

Both born Pontrhydfendigaid

Perhaps a clue lies in the 1871 census, but before that Margaret Morris appears to have had a number of illegitimate children(?)
1851 census she has a son William(1842) and daughter Jane Kemp(?)(1848)
1861 census a daughter Margaret(1859
The 1871 census has her as head of household, alone in one major database, but on the next page immediately there is Robert James, described as son and Jane as wife, together with a William James also son.Jane's age is indecipherable/crossed out and William is given as 1849,but what if Robert James is her "son in law"with Jane his "wife",her dasughter and William her son misnamed as a James? - RG10/5570/56/23
I have put inverted commas to fit the next speculation.Elizabeth who appears as the granddaughter to Elizabeth Morris could be the daughter of Jane and Robert James(unmarried?).There is a death of a Jane Morris aged 30 in 1876 in the Tregaron district that could be the Jane above leaving Robert James to marry an Elizabeth.
Highly speculative,but worth consideration?

Some more data that may be relevant. If you have access to the 1911 image as CaroleW indicated the following Paddington deaths look relevant(FreeBMD)
1907 George Robert Bayes aged 1
1908 James Rodney Bayes aged 0
However, given that there are 4 more Swansea births for Bayes, between 1912 and 1916,with maiden name James(FreeBMD),one of which(1913) is Frederick R,the following Paddington death also looks relevant
1902 Frederick R E Bayes
This might suggest Elizabeth was in the Paddington area in 1901 and there is an Elizabeth A James given born 1874 "Wales" as a cook in the household of William Dollar,a vet, which would fit with George's occupation(inc. George Bay 1901 census found on previous thread)-RG13/14/68/34
