Title: Sarah Gibson and Agnew Skimming
Post by: Terry Gibb on Monday 26 October 15 19:11 GMT (UK)
According to what I've found so far, they had 2 children out of wedlock (Agnew was married at the time) but they ultimately married in 1929 after the first wife died. I'm trying to prove their illegitimate children were Hugh and William Gibson born 1909 and 1913 resp. William was given up for adoption but I think Sarah kept Hugh. Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks in advance.

Terry

Hi Terry.

This is the reply I posted on the FTF forum for you on the 25th which shows both of Sarahs sons
were illegitimate. You may have missed it.

"Hugh was born at 5.30pm 11 April 1909 at Stoneykirk,Wigtown. He was named Hugh Gibson Flynn and shown as Illegitimate.
His father was recorded as Charles Flynn a dairyman of Portpatrick,Wigtown. His mother was Sarah Gibson a dairymaid. The parents were not recorded as married.

The 1911 census shows Sarah aged 24 with her son Hugh living in South Milton,Old Luce,Wigtown. This is the home of her brother
William aged 26. Also there is her mother Mary a widow aged 64.

Sarah's second son William Gibson was born 2.30am 23 August 1913 at 379 Janefield Street,Glasgow. He was recorded as Illegitimate,
no father name recorded.

On the 5th July 1935 William married Janet Allan Duffy (a spinster 21 years). The marriage took place at Bridgeton West &Barrowfield
church.
William was recorded as William Gibson Craig formerly William Gibson, occupation stone mason.
His mother was recorded as Sarah Gibson, dairymaid. Now married to Agnew Skimming, Railway engine driver. "

I have the records if you would like a copy.
Matt

Hello. Sorry to squeeze in on your conversation, but was wondering if this Agnew Skimming was the one that was married to Isabella Richardson from Leswalt, Wigtownshire, Scotland.

Thank you,

Tori

Hi Tori
Sorry to bother you I wanted to ask about Isabella Richardson, from Leswalt, Wigtownshire, it’s possible she may be my paternal grandmother - we’ve been looking for any trace of her before she was married but with no luck so far. If this is the same person she married Cyril Lumb and had 3 children the second of which is my father Alan Lumb.

Hope we can find a link!

Welcome to Rootschat, Clare.

I get from the thread the suggestion that Isabella Richardson from Leswalt, Wigtownshire, was the first wife of Agnew Skimming who died. He then married Sarah Gibson.

Do you have the Richardson/Lumb marriage cert details. I can’t see a Cyril Lumb on ScotlandsPeople. When did he marry?
