Title: MOUNTMELLIK BIRTH 1832 - Fernandez
Post by: Megan Hodges on Friday 30 October 15 02:02 GMT (UK)
G'day all

I am wanting to find the birth of my 2 x great grandmother Anne Fernandez/s/ss, who according to the information given on her death certificate by her husband James Isaac Markcrow, was born to Edward Fernandez/s/ss and Anne Unknown in about 1832.  Her husband stated on her death certificate that she was 17 when they married 21 Jan 1849 St John`s Church Parish of Liverpool.  My belief is they eloped as their marriage certificate gives their ages as "full".  She was buried in the Roman Catholic section of Rockhampton Cemetery Qld in 1892.

Details on the marriage certificate for Anne's father Edward also states he was a steward (ship) and on death cert it states he was a master mariner.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated

Megan

Hi There

Fernandez is obvs not an Irish surname nor a County Laois one.

What throws me aswell is that Laois is in the midlands with only the odd canal dotted around, nothing, water wise, to draw a ship's captain to the area.

Where was County Laois as POB gotten from ?

Whilst I agree with the points that Tara has mentioned, the Mountmellick R.c. registers are online and cover the period when Anne was born-

As well as checking for her baptism (assuming the family were Catholic) I would suggest checking a good bit before and after to see if there are any possible siblings.

Hi Meegan. James and Ann are my g-g-g grandparents. Have you had any luck finding information on annes family. She was a severe drunk and spent time in and out of reception houses. James even had the pubs in rockhampton prohibited from serving her spiritous alcohol.

The only record I have found that is remotely possible is mexican! Would love to speak to you
