Title: E-mail settings
Post by: Hampshire Lass on Friday 30 October 15 22:45 GMT (UK)
I wanted to unsubscribe from e-mail notifications for one topic but mistakenly ticked the e-mail box in the wrong place and unsubscribed to any further e-mail notifications on any topic at all.

I am now confused and would appreciate any help. I tried to set my e-mail notifications under my profile and here are 2 images of how it is now set.  It doesn't make sense to me though as the second image shows that I am not receiving e-mail notifications on any board, despite the setting further up the page showing they are turned on.

Hope I'm making sense....... hard to explain   ???

If it's of any help, that is exactly how mine looks and I get email notification for every thread I've posted on, apart from the Totally off Topic ones.

Thanks for replying groom.

Unfortunately it's not working correctly though as I didn't get an email to say you had replied, I just noticed that you had.

Hopefully someone will be able to throw some light on what my problem is since all is working well for you.

I would hate to think it looked as though I am ignoring any replies I may get on the future because I do rely on the email notifications.

Hasn't gone into your spam folder has it, that happened once with mine and Sarah told me to look there?

Sorry for you; here's a test reply for you to evaluate.
                    Best of luck.

No unfortunately not.

I wasn't notified of this reply either. I had Rootschat on my laptop and could see you had replied but didn't click on to view the post and had my Kindle on to see any emails but nothing arrived.

Somehow, I've really upset the applecart here  :)

On the other hand perhaps there is something wrong in the system and maybe Trystan or Sarah may see my posting (hopefully)

I don't have ticks against any of the threads listed on that page either.... presumably you're the same?

Pinot, you replied as I was posting and no I didn't get an email about your post either.

Why not PM Sarah and see if she can help?

Ok thanks groom, I was wondering what I should do.

Hi

First of all have others being getting notifications for posts on this thread?

Also, make sure the "Turn email notification on when you post or reply to a topic" in your profile is ticked and select "Save Settings"

I've noticed that you have the request under" For topics and boards I've requested email notifications on, notify me"  show Instantly but only show the first reply, have been ticked.

I have mine set to INSTANTLY....

Hope that works

Carol

I am also having problems. I have mine set to Instantly, but have not had any notifications for a couple of days.

So have I, that at least proves that this sub-forum is one that generates notifications.

I PMd Sarah as groom suggested and so now her attention is drawn to this thread.

Thanks for all your replies. I didn't have any email notifications of your replies this morning but checked under the "new replies" button....... which simply will not work for me long term as I will forget to look there.  :)

Thanks for checking your setting Carol and mine is now changed to instantly.

Very interesting that you're also having problems jebber. That makes it look even more like a system error rather than me being thick. Did you also tick to unsubscribe on an email and how do you have your settings?

Have you also ticked the Notify button at the bottom of each page you are wanting to see replies on??  I think you might need to do this to back up your settings?

This thread has Unnotify at the bottom of it. I suppose I could press that and then press notify again and see what  happens.

Can't make things any worse  :)

P.S. I've done just that and also pressed notify on the thread that I didn't want any more emails on, so "watch this space"

Has that fixed it?

No  :'(   but thanks for your reply groom

In the first place I clicked on the bottom part of the email notification and that took me to a message which said "sorry you are leaving us". I knew I'd done something wrong because RC won't get rid of me that easily   :)

Let's hope Sarah or Trystan can sort me out  :)

My settings are set to receive notifications Instantly and to Replies and Moderation, but the bottom of the page tells me I am not receiving notifications for any boards.

I have tried changing and saving the settings, then changing them back and saving them again.

I usually stay logged, so I have tried logging out and then logging back  in again to see if that made a difference, nothing has worked.

Same here Jebber. At least we're not alone  :)

Hi

The "You aren't receiving email notifications on any boards right now" relates to being notified of all messages posted to a specific board, for example, if you had an interest in a particular County you could go to the Board and/or sub-boards of that particular County and select Notify. You would then be notified of every post to that Board.

Thanks for your reply Andy.

I am marked to be notified on several boards including this one, but the only way I am seeing new replies, including yours, is by checking back under unread posts.

Thanks for explaining that Andy because I was confused as to what that meant.

I've also reported it to Sarah Jebber, so hopefully it will be resolved in due course.

The only way I'm finding replies is "Profile" and then "New Replies."  Also your PM didn't produce an email Jebber, just showed up as a 1 beside "Messages"

If you go to this bit of your profile, how many pages of notifications do you have?

34????

Your post is top of the pile.

I think I received emails and responded to all of my replies. I really hope I've never ignored anyone.

Hi HR,

Just picked up your message, I have subscribed you again  :)

You had clicked on the "unsubscribe" button from the email notification, this stops any further contact.

Hopefully they should be working again

Sarah :)

Hi Jebber,

On the October 21st your service provider received a note that one of our notifications to you may have been spam, they may have asked you confirm this ? If you had not got back to them they then started blocking our notifications.

If you can add your RootsChat notifications to your "safe sender list" this would be helpful

1 Click Contacts in the right toolbar
2 Click add Contact
3 Enter (Rootschat notification address)
4 Click Add contact button in the window that pops up to finish

Here is a link to the other providers

I can see that my test message should have gone through to you..

If anyone else is having problems please just let me know and I can have a look into it for you.

Sarah :)
