god moaning ;D
I am researching my Mothers paternal line and have found a Henry Whitchurch with Wife Mary and family in 1841 , 1851, and 1871 but there is no trace of them in 1861 ?
This is the family in 1841 Census HO107 891 3 39 10
40 Blackfriars rd St Ebbe
Henry Whitchurch 1803
Mary Whitchurch 1803
Susan 1827 Oxfordshire
Henry 1829
Elizabeth 1831
Louisa 1833
John 1834
Thomas 1836
Mary Ann 1838
Anstiss 1840
Hope someone can find them

in desperation I tried searching for just them in 1861 census by their christian names and birth dates and found this
RG09 768 89 27
Could this be them mistranscribed ? Its a very strange name
Henry Whihharde 1804 cordwainer born Aylesbury
Mary 1804 Born Abingdon Bucks
Richard 1843 cordwainer Oxford
James Simmonds 1821 Wifes Brother ?
looks highly likely ,should I try to get the entry corrected on FindMyPast ?

If you look at the actual image, it is Whitchurch. So, yes, it is a FindMyPast transcription error, so best to tell them.
Out of interest Ancestry indexed it correctly as Whitchurch.
-
Do you not look at the original image to assess whether the transcription is accurate?
I'd say it's a fair guess at transcription.
If it's not 100% clear then a faithful interpretation is better than a guess.

I was unable to find Henry born Buckinghamshire & Mary Berkshire in 1861. I note they moved from Blackfriars Road, St Ebbe, Oxford, Oxfordshire after 1851 and in 1871 were at Johnsons Row, Uxbridge, Middlesex. I think the one you found is them.
I did find some of the family below.
1861 - 28, Thames Street, Clewer, Windsor, Berkshire
Anstiss Whitchurch Servant Unmarried Female 20 1841 Oxford, Oxfordshire
1861 - St Martins Street, St Mary the More, Wallingford, Berkshire
Henry Whitchurch Head Married Male 31 1830 Tailor Journeyman Oxford, England
Eliza Whitchurch Wife Married Female 24 1837 Wife Leicester,
Elizabeth Whitchurch Daughter Unmarried Female 4 1857 Scholar Leicester,
Henriette Whitchurch Daughter Unmarried Female 1 1860 Wallingford, Berkshire
Emma Whitchurch Daughter Unmarried Female 0 1861 - Wallingford, Berkshire,
William Hobb Lodger Married Male 43 1818 Carrier Journeyman Standerwick, Suffolk,
Ann Hobb Lodger Married Female 42 1819 Wife Aldington, Berkshire,
1861 - Alpha Road, Upton, Eton, Buckinghamshire
Thomas W Whitchurch Head Married Male 25 1836 Boot & Shoe Maker Oxford, England
Sarah Whitchurch Wife Married Female 25 1836 Boot Closer Northamptonshire
Sarah H Whitchurch Daughter - Female 1 1860 - Buckingham, Buckinghamshire

Do you not look at the original image to assess whether the transcription is accurate?
In this particular case it wouldn't have been possible because the FindMyPast database is based on their transcribed records (which are incorrectly transcribed,) not the original image ...which is why is why it was not possible to find any reference to the family on FindMyPast.

thanks Liz unfortunately I cannot afford a subscription to both FindMyPast and ancestry so I tend to rely on FindMyPast and Freebmd freecen
I suppose I should have checked ancestry but to be honest it didn't occur to me

thank you Colin you're a star . I did have Anstiss and also Thomas & Sarah Sarah but I did not have that their occupation was also shoe making that ties in nicely thank you.
I also seem to have missed Henry Eliza Elizabeth in 1861 although somewhere I am sure I have them somewhere in 1851 .
Thank you for this record thats excellent work

Thank you all for your lookups and help I couldn't have got as far as I have without Rootschat members help.
Here is what I have recorded so far up to 1871.
The top line is my late Mothers direct paternal line and I haven't yet had a chance to investigate where there might be connections to all the other Whitchurch families
When it is finished I intend to list all of it so that it might be of help to present and future researchers of the Whitchurch line

I think Pauline meant after you had found the Whihhade family - to check what the image actually said! Always best to work from the image not the transcription.
What you did, usig Christian names only to hunt for them, is one useful tip BUt then when you find something possible, as you did, then look at the image.
-
thank you for explaining Liz .
I think had there not been pretty conclusive detail in the transcription I would have checked the image but the birth dates and birth places and occupations and census area all matched so I was almost certain it was the same family especially given the ridiculous name which couldn't be found anywhere else in any record source.
I am running perilously close to the end of my subscription with FindMyPast and I cannot afford another until sometime next year so I am using every lookup very sparingly at the moment .I have over 15x other images I'd like to check but simply cannot afford it at the moment.
i hope this explains why I did not also check the image in this instance.
Did you look at my Whitchurch record ? there is a lot of lookups in that lot ::)

Wasn't sure how old this post might be but I also descend from this family via Henry's daughter Mary Ann who marries Edward Fry, I've also contributed DNA via ancestry and have had a match to a descendant of Louisa Sarah her sister.
So would be interested in hearing from you.
Blessings
