Trying to find marriage record for Michael McEvoy of Carlow (1882-1968) to Margaret (Kelly?) (1883?-1942?) so that I can get the fathers names. Their son Peter (1918-2003) was born in Carlow. There is a marriage in 1915 of a Michael McEvoy in Carlow but Margaret is not listed as a spouses name. Have also looked in Kilkenny and Abbeyleix but n/t. Family info is that they were a Carlow family and would have stayed local to that area.
Have found a Michael McEvoy in 1901 census in Carlow - (father Thomas) but his dob differs greatly from the 1911 entry and birth records so would like m/cert to confirm parentage.
Can anyone spot a marriage record?
Thanks - Rose H

Are you sure Margaret was from Carlow?Marriages usually take place in the brides parish so if she wasn't from Carlow in may be in another area.
There is one in 1913 in Kilkenny a Margaret Kelly

The 1915 one is a Kate Aughney

Hi There Rose
You have put a question mark beside Kelly.
Do you have Peter's birth cert to confirm that his mother's maiden name was in fact Kelly ?

. . . also . . .
Presuming that you have Peter's birth cert, can you give us his father Michael's occupation on it !?

The family told me they thought she was a Kelly (which is why I put ? as it wasn't 100% definite) but haven't got b/cert yet -(do have registration details of the 1918 birth). Don't know how I missed seeing the 1913 marriage in Kilkenny.
Will order b/cert to confirm maiden name. Thanks

Hi, looking at the 1911 Irish census there are two other Michael McEvoy's in Carlow whose age is within reasonable limits for your Michael.
Ballywilliamroe,Ballymoon,Carlow
Michael McEvoy age: 24
living with his parents Michael & MaryAnn McEvoy & 2 siblings
and this (that peaked my interest)
Montgomery Street, Carlow Urban,Carlow
Michael McEvoy age:30
living with his brother Peter & Peter's wife Elizabeth. Maybe???
Hope one may be correct, Kim

Kim -thanks for your reply. Due to family bereavement I haven't done a follow up of the McEvoys but I did see the record of Michael living with his brother Peter and s-i-law and that would be the record I'd look at first as Peter is a name used in the current McEvoy family. Rose

Hi again, I cross referenced Michael McEvoy and Margaret marriage in 1915 and came up with 2 possible Margaret's, neither of whom are Kelly. One is Margaret Meany & the other is Margaret Hoare.
I then looked at the Irish census records and found the following;
1901 census:
Henry St., Graigue Urban, Carlow
Terence Hoare age: 28 head of house Roman Catholic(RC) born: Queen's co (Laois) occ: boatman
Bridget Hoare age: 27 wife RC born: Queen's co
Maggie Hoare age: 9 daughter RC born: Queen's co
Edward Hoare age: 4 son RC born: Queen's co.
John Hoare age: 3 son RC born: Queen's co
Bridget Hoare age: -- daughter RC born: Carlow co.
1911 census
Ringsend Docks, South Dock, Dublin
Terence Hoare age: 37 RC born: Carlow co. married occ: mate on vessel
1911 census
Chapel St., Graigue Urban, Carlow
Bridget Hore age: 34 head of house RC born: Queen's co. married 18 yrs 8 kids, 8 kids living
Edward Hore age: 15 son born: Queen's co. occ: messenger/domestic servant
John Hore age: 12 son born: Queen's co.
Bridget Hore age: 10 daughter born: Queen's co.
Mary Hore age: 8 daughter born: Queen's co.
Elizabeth Hore age: 6 daughter born: Queen's co.
Christina Hore age: 4 daughter born: Queen's co.
Anne Hore age: 2 daughter born: Queen's co.
James Byrne age: 28 brother RC born: Queen's co.
1911 census
Dublin St, Carlow Urban
Margaret Hore age: 17 RC born: Queen's co. occ: housemaid in Kinsella household
or
Burren St., Carlow Urban
Margaret Hore age: 20 RC born: Queen's co. occ: domestic servant in Gaffney household
*note: in 1911 at old address Hoare family living at before Terence went to work in Dublin, resides a George Hoare age:35,his wife Jane & 2 kids. George may be brother to Terence
for Margaret Meany found 2 possibles in 1911(ages for both appear a bit young):
1911 census
Seskin, Ridge, Carlow
Martin Byrne age: 50 RC born: Queen's co. occ: farmer married
Mary Byrne age: 46 wife RC born: Kilkenny co. married 2 years
Anne Meany age: 13 step-daughter RC born: Carlow co.
Margaret Meany age: 12 step-daughter RC born: Carlow co
Mary Meany age: 11 step-daughter RC born: Carlow co.
Martin Meany age: 7 step-son RC born: Carlow co.
or
1911 census
Old Chapel Lane, Tullow Urban, Carlow
William Meany age:56 RC born: Limerick co. occ: painter married
Bridget Meany age:46 RC born: Cork married 28 years 11 kids, 10 are living
Maurice Meany age:24 RC son born: Cork co. occ: painter
Patrick Meany age:18 RC son born: Cork co. occ: painter

Ellen Meany age:11 RC daughter born: Carlow co.
Francis Meany age:13 RC son born: Carlow co.

In Civil Registration Lists I could find no birth for Margaret Hoare but found 3 for Margaret Meany;
Jan-March 1893 Carlow, April-June 1890 Kilkenny, & Oct-Dec 1893 Kilkenny.
Hope this helps, Kim
