Title: Crawfords, Co Tyrone
Post by: Ben McCloskey Robinson on Saturday 07 November 15 14:12 GMT (UK)
Looking for two sets of Crawford in Tyrone, I think there's a connection between them.

First is Eliza Crawford born about 1873, daughter of Robert Crawford, she married a William James Robinson. I'm looking for the name of her mother or a certificate of their marriage. I think this family was living in Dromore, County Tyrone, NOT County Down.

Second is John Crawford, who is son of either the same Robert Crawford or another one.

Thanks

Best to start working back so that you don't get confused and end up tracing the wrong family.

Have you found Eliza in 1911 and 1901 census yet?

I have Eliza's marriage certificate and have her as Eliza Robinson in 1901, but she was dead by 1911, my grandfather told me this much because her husband remarried. Her certificate lists her father as Robert Crawford, and I know she lived in Dromore parish prior to her marriage!

Please post the full marriage details (and link to her in 1901 census) so that we can search for more information.

Should the ALLEN scenario work out . . .

She married Robert in 1860.

He was from Dromore.

She was from KNOCKAGINNY.

Her father was a farmer called Thomas.

Robert's father was a farmer also called Robert BUT his surname was down as CLARKE

I'm not sure if there was a mistranscription reason for this or a parentage reason.

I have both Robert and John Crawfords in my line from Tyrone. Robert b. 8 June, 1839 and John (his brother) b. 21 July 1841.

I don't know Robert's wife or children. At some point he immigrated to the US and settled in New Bedford MA where other groups of the Crawford family followed and settled.  Based on his birth date this Robert could have had a daughter born in 1873. I have heard an anecdotal mention of an "Aunt Eliza" on this side of the family but we have never been able to place her. Robert died presumably in New Bedford in 1924.

His brother John remained in Tyrone near Stewartstown until his death in 1923. Almost all of John's children moved to New Bedford.

Does any of this seem like a possible fit?

I have connections to the Crawfords of Dromore, Caledon.  If you get this message Ben make a reply and maybe we can tie up.

We probably do if it's in that vicinity! I have an Eliza Crawford married William James Robinson and after she died he married her niece. I haven't any other information on me currently but can you find any common connections your end?

Hello again Ben,

I got your reply late on! A year later.

Good news is I am much further on from where I was last time.  I am related to Robert Crawford and Mary Ann Allen and the Dromore Crawford.  Some of which have emmigrated accross to the US seemingly.

For whatever reason I can't send / reply to private message but if you could send me an e-mail address to get in touch maybe figure a few things out.
