Title: McGoffs of County Mayo
Post by: courtneyanne98 on Sunday 08 November 15 04:47 GMT (UK)
My gram was born in 1915 in the County Mayo. Gram and 3 of her sisters came to America, but 1 sister and her only brother remained in Ireland. I was curious to see how many of her sister Lena's or her brother John's decendents were still around.

Hi There and Welcome

Can you give us as much info as possible ?

What was your grandmothers name ?

What were her parent's names ?

Were her siblings younger or older ?

Do you have a place in Mayo ?

Do you have an occupation for her father ?

Tara

The RIP notice for Lena mentions Enagh Beg

Is this her family ?

As per the note that I put on your other thread, Diane is probably your best bet to help.

My gram's name was Anne McGoff(born Annie, name changed by relative upon arrival to America). She never mentioned her parent's names, but I do know her sister's names were Mary, Agnes(born Bridget, name changed by relative upon arrival to America) ,Kathleen(born Katie, name also changed by relative upon arrival to America), Lena, and John. Mary, Agnes & Kathleen were older than my gram & Lena &Johnny were younger. My gram always mentioned growing up on a farm, so I imagine her father's occupation to be a farmer. Gram never mentioned a specific area in County Mayo though.

I do not know my great grandparents names, as gram never made mention, but I would imagine yes to the 1911 census. Their religion was Roman Catholic.

Did she marry? If so what is on Cert?

There is no one to look for in 1911 unless you have names!!

Sorry

I've just seen that Hallmark already asked re paperwork.

I'm afraid that we can't help 'til you get her parent's names.

You also need to tie ages down better.

Also I had read that your origins were in Crossmolina but are you saying that this isn't the case ?

Without that we could be pulling names out of the hat for weeks and still not know what is correct... Names on Cert in US are what is needed!
