Quick question if I may please
William, Alexander and James Henderson all died in Ednam, the former in 1889 and the latter 2 in 1890. All died of Phthisis and all were ag labs in their late teens/early 20s. Their mother Elizabeth (m/n Wilson) also died in Ednam in 1901 and their father Robert in St Boswells in 1904. I've done a quick search on findagrave which hasn't turned up anything, so my question is would there be a single graveyard which served Ednam in which they are likely to be and if so what is the likelihood of their father being buried with them please? There were other children in the marriage but they died at different times.

they may well all be buried at Ednam, but you would have to check the MI books or more likely the Lair books, because they may have no stone, but it depends on the family & cost. If they were Ag Lab they may have moves about and could have been buried at the nearest cemetery

Being ag. labs I doubt they could have afforded a stone, especially given the short period of time in question. Lair books is a new term to me - whereabouts would I find them please, are they accessible online?

A lair book is a register of burials in each cemetery
Unfortunately not available online, but can access via the local authority - in your case Scottish borders council burial dept
MI's should be check too because never a member of the family may have given a stone you never now

Did a little digging
Are you aware Robert & Elizabeth move around a lot and married at yetholm 1858 also if you look on Scotlandspeople you should get the marriage cert which will give their parents names
As far as I can see Robert's parents are Thomas Henderson & Janet Patton

Thanks for doing a bit of digging for me :) I did know that, and Thomas Henderson (his father) is one of my biggest brick walls to date!
Thomas is my 3rd Gt Grandfather and I've traced his life through to his death, but have never found where he was born. On every census he filled in his place of birth as England - I've trawled all the records I can find on the familysearch site for the north of England down as far as Yorkshire and nada.
Robert is one of my 2nd Gt Grand Uncles and he did move about a fair bit as you said. I've pretty much got his life sorted (except for one child I haven't traced to the end of yet), but I was wondering where they might all be interred, whether there might be a family plot in one place or whether they are all scattered around. I guess they would probably be unmarked graves anyway, I can't see a ploughman having the sort of money to be able to afford a headstone for 3 sons who all died within a year. I'll get hold of a contact email for the borders council as you suggested and drop them a line within the next few days.
