My first Ancestor in America was Uriah Cottle. He was transported as "Bonded to America" in March of 1752.
All theories on this side of the Atlantic are that he was convicted of a crime - hence deported.
I do not have a "World" Ancestry account so can not explore it there. I have googled it and still have come up with nothing.
Is there records available free online for convictions? I have searched through the website British History Online. I do not mind doing the work searching for it but I am starting to think that it may be some sort of pay site or maybe a site that is only offered to Brits.
I am trying to find the court record to see what crime he committed and to see if any of his family was sent with him.
That is why this is in the "Lookup" forum.

A bonded emigrant from England to America may not have been a convict but an indentured servant. Like selling yourself into slavery for a specified period.
