Title: COMPLETE: Marriage of Francis Brown: Malton in 1840: COMPLETE
Post by: Tony Freeman on Monday 16 November 15 17:39 GMT (UK)
I have located Francis Brown marrying a Sarah "Ashwith" or "Sarah Askwill".
The attached two records also have varying dates for the marriage:

a) Sarah Askwith on the 20 December 1840
b) Sarah Askwill on the 24 December 1840.

Can anyone confirm which is the correct name and marriage date?
I cannot imagine that these are two different couples.

All help appreciated.

I would suspect that the 20 December date is a date for Banns, and that the marriage took place on 24 December 1840.  FreeBMD show the bride's surname as Askwith.  YorkshireBMD also give the bride's surname at Askwith, and that the marriage took place at St Michael.

Sarah Askill
Marriage 1840 24th Dec
Father William Askill
Spouse Francis Brown
Spouse's father George Brown
St. Michael, New Malton, York, England

I agree that the 20th will most probably be the bands
