Title: Kaess
Post by: briankaess on Wednesday 18 November 15 19:45 GMT (UK)
Kaess (Käß or Käss) Family from Benningen am Neckar, Germany

Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) came from Heutingsheim, Germany, in 1965 to Chicago as a legal U.S. Resident. We know this because he worked as a Printer in the Chicago area. He came to the Chicago area in the same era (within 10-15 years or so) as his Kulhanek cousins. Gerd married Marie Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) in abt 1967, presumably in Chicago as well. Gerd had two identical twin sons (*) born Oct 24 1967 in Chicago.
Mary Ellen Dawson (1945-2012) is believed to be of Scotch-Irish, slight French, English and German-American extraction.
The parents of Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) are Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) and Dorothea Dorschke (1922-1951). Paul came from a long line of Kaess' in Benningen am Neckar, Wuerttemberg, Germany. His parents were Friedrich Emil Kaess (1889-1968) and Anna Berta Falkenecker (1890-1970). Emil Friedrich Kaess is a rufname or preferred name for Friedrich Emil Kaess. The Falkenecker Family hails from Heutingsheim, Germany, a nearby town to Benningen. Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess was raised in a cute home on Bahnhofstrasse 33 in Heutingsheim, Germany, during the 1950's and early 1960's.
The Kaess Family owned a vinyard in Benningen for at least two generations. They grew Trollinger and Lemberger wine there, but this was not their main occupation.
The Kaess surname is believed to be an occupational surname related to cheese makers.

Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) would say to his American relatives in 1990:
1) 'Du Hast total andere Mentalität'. 'You have a totally different mentality.'
2) 'Wir sind kein Millionaires'. 'We are not Millionaires.'
3) He also used Swabish phrases such as 'Das is egal!' 'It does not matter!' or 'Gell!' 'Right'

Hildegard Golz (1924-2004) would say to her American relatives in 1990:
4) Was du willst!  'Do what you want!'

There is a family story that Marie Ellen (Dawson) Kaess (1945-2012), widow to Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess, was mugged on the Wilson CTA Train Platform by a Black person sometime in the early 1990's in Chicago. The Black man punched her and then threw her down the stairs, causing her to suffer broken teeth.
Marie Ellen (Dawson) Kaess kept her married surname Kaess after the death of her husband Gerd in 1972 until her own death in 2012.

Post by: briankaess on Tuesday 16 May 17 17:47 BST (UK)
The parents of Friedrich Emil Kaes (1889-1968) are Andreas Kaes (1824-1896) and Johanna Caroline Lang (b. 1850). Andreas Kaes was born Nov 13 1824 and died Mar 14 1896, both in Benningen, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Andreas was married twice. His first wife Anna Dietiker (1823-1879) died in 1879 – the same year he married Joahnna Caroline Lang (his 2nd wife). With Ann he had two children: Wilhelm and Caroline. With Joahnna Caroline Lang, he had five children, his last being Friedrich Emil Kaes (1889-1968). There is a 'familien register' placing Andreas Kaes with his spouse Johanna Caroline (Lang) Kaes, along with their five children and parents. It also mentions that Friedrich Emil Kaes traveled to Buenos Aires in 1923.
The parents of Andreas Kaes are Johannes Kaes (1794-1862) and Regina Barbara Staengle (1789-1829). Johannes Kaes was born Aug 8 1794 and died Dec 12 1862. Regina Barbara Staengle was born Apr 4 1789 and died Aug 3 1829.
The parents of Johannes Kaes are Andreas Kaes (1755-1824) and  Johanna Barbara Entenmann (1760-1824). They married on Aug 7 1782 in Benningen. Andreas Kaes was born abt 1755 and died on Feb 9 1824, both in Benningen. Johanna Barbara Entenmann was born Jun 23 1760 (in Benningen) and died Oct 30 1824. The Kaess’ and Entenmann’s are both ‘old’ families in Benningen and there is evidence of intermarriage between them.
The parents of Andreas Kaes (1755-1824) were Johann Jacob Kaes (1730-1794) and Anna  Elizabeth Buerkle (1732-1760). They married on Aug 21 1753 in Benningen. Johann Jacob Kaes was born on Oct 16 1730 and died on Oct 24 1794, both in Benningen. Anna Elizabeth Buerkle was born on Nov 30 1732 and died on Nov 26 1760, both in Benningen. The parents of Johann Jacob Kaes were Johann Georg Kaes (b. abt 1704)and Anna Margaretha Thomas (b. July 26 1700 in Benningen). They married on Nov 10 1729 in Benningen.
Finally, the parents of Johann Georg Kaess were Georg Kaes (1669-1755) and Anna Catharina Roestlin  (b. 1658). They married on  Nov 27 1703 in Benningen. Georg Kaes was born Jan 27 1669 in Burgstall, Germany and died on Jan 9 1755 in Benningen. Georg Kaess was the ‘first’ Kaess in Benningen. He eventually settled in Benningen after his marriage.
Therefore, Benningen am Neckar, Germany, has been the ‘Heimat’ of the Kaess Family for centuries.
Therefore, the Kaess Family Tree is elucidated.

After reviewing an article on familypedia on Ludwig I, Count of Wuerttemberg (1412-1450), it was found that he is a descendant of Charlemagne (747-814) and William the Conquerer (1027-1087).

The Line of Descent from Charlemagne to Ludwig I, Count of Wuerttemberg (1412-1450) is as follows:

Charlemagne (742/747-814)
Louis I ‘The Pious’ Holy Roman Emperor (778-840)
King Charles ‘The Bald’ (823-877)
Louis ‘The Stammerer’ King of France II (846-879)
Princess of France Ermentrude (875-914)
Cunigunda Countess of Treves & Ardennes (-923)
Sigefried Count of Luxembourg (916-998)
Eva Countess of Luxembourg (967-)
Louis 1er de Mousson (980-1023)
Sofie Mousson (1019-)
Ludwig von Arnstein (1045-1095)
Ludwig II von Arnstein (1075-1117)
Anastacia von Arnstein
Ruprecht I von Nassau  Count of Laurenburg (1090-1155)
Walram I Count of Nassau (1146-1198)
Henry II Count of Nassau
Walram II of Nassau (1220-1276)
Adolf I (1256-1298)
Rudolf I ‘The Stammerer’ of Bavaria (1274-1319)
Louis IV Wittelsbach Holy Roman Emperor (-1347)
Herzogin Elizabeth von Bayern (1330-1402)
Eberhard III  (1365-1417)
Graf Eberhard IV von Wuerttemberg der Jungere (1388-1419)
Count Ludwig I von Wuerttemberg  (1412-1450)

Therefore, the Kaess' (or Kaes') in Benningen am Neckar, Germany, and their descendants are also descendants of Charlemagne.

The Line of Descent in the Swabian line of Nobility (Counts) from Konrad I to Ludwig I Count of Wuerttemberg is as follows:

Konrad I, Herr von Württemberg (1053-1135)
Konrad Württemberg II (1077-1144)
Ludwig I, Graf von Württemberg (1106-1158)
Ludwig II Count of Wurttemberg  (1131-1181)
Hartmann I Count Of Wuerttemberg  (1165-1240)
Heinrich of Pfannberg I (1222-1265)
Graf Eberhard I VON WÜRTTEMBERG (1265-1325)
Ulrich III Count of WUERTTEMBERG (1298-1344)
Eberhard III Count of Wurtemburg (1315-1392)
Ulrich (1342-1388)
Eberhard III (1364-1417)
Graf Eberhard IV von Württemberg der Jüngere (1388-1419)
Count Ludwig I Von Wuerttemberg (1412-1450)

Konrad I was the founder of the house of Württemberg. He is a ‘mighty man among the Swabians.’ He was the first ruler of the castle of Württemberg. His name appeared on Genealogical papers Paul Ernst Kaess handed to family in 1990.

This Swabian Line of Descent confirms what Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) said in 1990 when he stated he was descended from Swabian Nobility.

Johanna Barbara Entenmann (1760-1824) was married to Andreas Kaes (1755-1824) in Benningen am Neckar, Germany. Her parents were Johann Friedrich Entenmann (1724-1802) and Anna Maria Eberle (1730-1810). The Entenmann's were intermarried with the Kaess' in Benningen. They were also descendants of the Haller von Hallerstein family, a noble family from Nuremburg.
Looking for any background on either family in Benningen.

The following is a line of descent from Charlemagne to Ludwig I Count of Württemberg-Urach (1412-1450).  This list and dates came from familypedia.wikia.com

Charlemagne (747-814)
Louis the Pious (778-840)
Charles the Bald (823-877)
Louis the Stammerer (846-879)
Charles the Simple (879-929)
Louis IV, King of Western Francia (c920-954)
Mathilde (943-?)
Gerberga de Bourgogne (965-1019)
Hermann II von Werl (c980-1025)
Mathilde von Werl (?-?)
Adalbert II, Count of Ballenstedt (c1030-c1080)
Otto, Count of Ballenstedt (c1071-1123)
Albrecht von Brandenburg (c1100-1170)
Bernhard III, von Sachsen, Count of Askania (1140-1212)
Heinrich I, Count of Anhalt (c1170-1252)
Hedwig von Anhalt (c1228-1259)
Agnes von Liegnitz (c1243-1265)
Eberhard I von Württemberg (1265-1325)
Ulrich III, Count of Württemberg (1298-1344)
Eberhard II von Württemberg (1315-1392)
Ulrich von Württemberg (1342-1388)
Eberhard III, Count of Württemberg (1364-1417)
Eberhard IV, Count of Württemberg (1388-1419)
Ludwig I, Count of Württemberg-Urach (1412-1450)

It should also be noted that Agnes von Liegnitz’ (c1243-1265) Father was Boleslaw II the Bald of Poland (c1223-1278). He was a member of the Silesian Piasts and was High Duke of Poland briefly (in 1241) and Duke of Silesia at Wroclaw (from 1241 to 1248). He also ruled the Silesian Duchy of Legnica. The 2nd Mongol raid occurred during his reign.
Boleslaw II the Bald's parents were Henry II the Pious of Poland (c1196-1241) and Anne of Bohemia. He is also a 'gateway' ancestor to Casimir the Restorer (1016-1058). Casimir is also a descendant of Charlemagne.
Since Paul Ernst Kaess (19212-2002) is a descendant of Georg Kaes (1669-1755), and Georg Kaes is a descendant of Ludwig I Count of Wurttemburg (1412-1450), and Ludwig I is a descendant of Charlemagne and Casimir the Restorer, then it follows that Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002) and his descendants are also descendants of Charlemagne and Casimir the Restorer.

They celebrated their 50th ‘Golden’ wedding anniversary on Mar 31 1963 in Benningen. His parents are Andreas Kaess (1824-1896) and Johanna Caroline Lang (1850-1932), both from Benningen. Friedrich Emil Kaess worked as a shipbuilder on the Orinoco River in South America and eventually returned to Germany where he lived out the rest of his days in Benningen. In a 'familienregister', he is mentioned as having visited Buenos Aires  in 1923. Trained Carpenter. Mentioned as ‘Master Carpenter.’ Anna Bertha worked as a maid in Ludwigsburg. Friedrich Emil Kaes and Anna Berta Falkenecker had 4 children together: Emil, Berta Freida, Paul, & Lina Elsa. A family photo from the 1960's shows Friedrich Emil Kaess and Anna Berta Kaess in a group photo with Kaess family members, including Gerd Edwin Kaess. Ursula Kaess says her Grandfather was named Emil Friedrich Kaess. His name as Friedrich Emil Kaess was confirmed by Claudia Blumhardt, a Lutheran Parish secretary in Heutingsheim. Emil Friedrich Kaess may have been a rufname or ‘preferred name’ for Emil Friedrich Kaess. Anna Berta Falkenecker was known as ‘Berta ‘ to her family. They may have also been grape-growers.

Date for Johannes Kaes is (1794-1862/1869). There is a 'familienregister' placing his death date as Jan 1 1869. Another unrecorded source has his death date as 1862. The former is more believable.

Date for Andreas Kaes is (c1755/1757-1824). There is a birth record for Andreas Kaes mentioning his birth date as Jul 17 1757 in Benningen, Germany. His parents Johann Jakob Kaes and Anna Elizabetha Buerklin are mentioned as well in this record. The c1755 date comes from an unrecorded source. There is an Ancestral File record/IGI record  at familysearch with a Jul 14 1757 birth date. The first birth record date of Jul 17 1757 appears to be the most reliable date.

Andreas Kaes (1824-1896) had two 'bastard' children with Magdalena Böhler named Caroline Kaes and Wilhelm Kaes. It was first thought that Ann Didkar was the mother, but this appears to be untrue.
Supporting documents are attached below. In one marriage record for Caroline Kaes, Ann Didikar is listed as the mother, but this is misleading. However, in a marriage record from Stuttgart, where Caroline Kaes lives, Magdalena Bohler is listed as the Mother. One source states that both children's mother is Madalena Boehler.
Magdalena Boehler met Andreas Kaes  in Stuttgart. Magadlena Boehler is the parent of both Caroline Kaes and Wilhelm Kaes. They (Andreas Kaes and Magdalena Boehler) had these two children out of wedlock.

The husband of Caroline Kaes is Karl Friederich Utz  b. 9/11/1845 in Abstatt, Heilbronn, Baden Württemberg.
They married Jul 25 1875 in Stuttgart
then he had a child : Karl Willhelm Utz,  b. Apr 20 1876 in Stuttgart.
It is possible they left for America.

Caroline Kaes (b. Sep 5 1851) was born in Haagen, Lörrach and
Willhelm Kaes (b. Nov 15 1852) in Harpoldingen, Säckingen
These two children were bastards, but still blood relatives to the Kaess in Benningen and elsewhere.
It is strange he never married Magdalena.

In  1859 Andreas Kaes went back to Benningen and married Anna Didiker, may be he brougt Anna with him ... she was from Swizterland. He may have met her in Stuttgart.

Kaess Family Ancestors
The parents of Friedrich Emil Kaes (1889-1968) are Andreas Kaes (1824-1896) and Johanna Caroline Lang (b. 1850). Andreas Kaes was born Nov 13 1824 and died Mar 14 1896, both in Benningen, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Andreas Kaes had two children out of wedlock with Magdalena Böhler: Caroline Kaes (b. Sep  5 1851) and Wilhelm Kaes (b. Nov 15 1852). Andreas was married twice. His first wife Anna Dietiker (1823-1879) died in 1879 – the same year he married Joahnna Caroline Lang (his 2nd wife). Ann reputedly came from Switzerland. No known children with Ann. With Joahnna Caroline Lang, Andreas Kaes  had five children, his last child being Friedrich Emil Kaes (1889-1968). There is a 'familien register' placing Andreas Kaes with his spouse Johanna Caroline (Lang) Kaes, along with their five children and parents. It also mentions that Friedrich Emil Kaes traveled to Buenos Aires in 1923.
The parents of Andreas Kaes are Johannes Kaes (1794-1862/1869) and Regina Barbara Staengle (1789-1829). Johannes Kaes was born Aug 8 1794 and died Dec 12 1862 or Jan 1 1869. Regina Barbara Staengle was born Apr 4 1789 and died Aug 3 1829. These dates hould be checked.
The parents of Johannes Kaes are Andreas Kaes (1757-1824) and  Johanna Barbara Entenmann (1760-1824). They married on Aug 7 1782 in Benningen. Andreas Kaes was born Jul  17 1757 and died on Feb 9 1824, both in Benningen. Johanna Barbara Entenmann was born Jun 23 1760 (in Benningen) and died Oct 30 1824. The Kaess’ and Entenmann’s are both ‘old’ families in Benningen and there is evidence of intermarriage between them.
Johanna Barbara Entenmann (1760-1824) was married to Andreas Kaes (1757-1824) in Benningen am Neckar, Germany.
The parents of Andreas Kaes (1757-1824) were Johann Jacob Kaes (1730-1794) and Anna  Elizabeth Buerkle (1732-1760). The parents of Johann Jacob Kaes were Johann Georg Kaes (b. abt 1704) and Anna Margaretha Thomas (b.

Kaess clan appears to have begun in Erdmannhausen, Germany,  by 1522, then spread out to nearby towns such as Affalterbach in 1545, Burgstall by 1669, then Benningen am Neckar by 1700. 1st two documents are of Gilg Kaess and Jung Gilg Kaess from about 1542 in Erdmannhausen from a Turks-estimate.

Title: Paul Ernst Kaess WWII Era
Post by: briankaess on Monday 11 March 19 15:31 GMT (UK)
From the scans for the Denazification File for Paul Ernst Kaess (1921-2002), Probably, the most valuable document at first glance was ‘Foreign Travel.’ This confirmed that he had traveled (during wartime) to France (Frankreich), Rumania (Rumanien), Bulgaria/Greece, and Russia (Russland). For Rumania, her served there from Jan 20 1941 to Mar 1 1941. For Bulgaria and Greece, he served from Mar 5? 1941 until Jun 14 1941. For France and Rumania, he was just training. He served in France from Dec 1 1940 to Jan 1 1941. This evidence about service in France helps lend credence to the family yarn that he had a French girlfriend. For Russia, he stated he had been there from June 22, 1941 until July 3 1944. June 22 1941 was the start of the Barbarossa campaign. We know from other sources that Paul was in the German Army from 1940 until 1944 (at least). Also, Paul stated in 1990 that he had been wounded in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1944 when a Russian soldier had thrown a grenade into his armored vehicle. July 3 1944 is right before the opening of the Russian Vilnius Offensive, during Operation Bagration, the Soviet’s Great Summer Offensive of 1944. This July 3 1944 date could easily have been the date Paul was wounded and evacuated from Russia. This would not have been the first time Paul was wounded. Medical Records also place him in Warsaw, Poland in early 1944. He was also in hospital in Crimea in 1942.

There was also a list of Medals/Awards at the bottom of the Military Service section.
There was also an ‘Arbeitsblatt’ form, dated 27 Aug 1946. This form showed he had been in the HJ or Hitler Youth from 1934-1939. It also demonstrated that he had been a member of the NSDAP or Nazi Party from 1940 until 1945. His ID card (or  Ausweiskarte) number appears to be A32784. One of the most revealing documents was his personal info, confirming much that had been gathered over the years from other sources. His name is mentioned as Paul Kaess, born Feb 6 1921 in Benningen. His occupation is ‘Sitzmobiltischler’ or seating furniture maker. His religión was Evangelisch or Lutheran. His citizenship is mentioned as ‘Deutsch’ or German. His address is Wilhelmstr. 17 in Heutingsheim, Germany. His hair color is Brown with his eyes Grey-Green. Even his weight is mentioned- 120 pf., whatever that is supposed to mean. His name is mentioned as Paul Ernst Kaess elsewhere in the file.

He attended the Volkschule in Benningen from 1927 to 1934, earning a Zeugnis or 'testimony.' The unit location history is a chronological record of employment and military service/before/during the war. He had been first an Apprentice (from 1934-1939) and then a Journeyman Sitzmobiltischler (from 1939-40). He took the Journeyman's exam in 1938 in Marbach am Neckar (near Benningen) with a 'Gut' result. He had been a member of the RAD or Reich Labour Force from March 17 1940 until June 10 1940. A Weinberg or 'Vinyard' acquired in 1935 from Gottlieb Kaes in Benningen appears as one of his assets. One document mentions he had lived in Benningen from his birth until he entered the German Army on June 17 1940. His Ober Leutnant from 1940 to 1944 was named Naether or something similar. This could easily have been his friend ‘Chef’ who he had talked about. Chef was a generic name for commander, but that is how Paul referred to his friend. His unit is mentioned as ‘Sturm Gesch. Lehr Brg 190’ . This is also what Deutsche Dienststelle has on Paul for a unit. This was an Artillery unit that wore the uniforms of the Panzer troops. It also mentions he was in the Hospital or Lazarett' from Jan 3 1944 to March 1 1944. His last date in the German Army is probably June 14 1945. The file also revealed he had been captured from May 8 1945 until June 14 1945.

From July 10, 1945, he worked as a Journeyman Sitzmobiltischler as a civilian. The war was over for him.

Correction to previous post. Paul Ernst Kaess last date in Russia was likely January 3 1944, NOT July 3 1944. There was some confusion in reading the dates in the documents of his Denazification File which led to this error.

The documents of the Ministry for Political Liberation Württemberg-Baden are kept in the Main State Archives Stuttgart.
Also in Bavaria, the court documents are distributed to the state archives.
In Hessen all denazification documents are concentrated in the main state archive Wiesbaden.

Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) had a medical reason for not serving in the West German military (Bundeswehr), prior to his coming to America in 1965. This is per Arnhild Kaess, his half-sister. Conscription was mandatory for males in Germany from 1956 to 2011.
Title: Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess
Post by: briankaess on Wednesday 02 September 20 17:48 BST (UK)
The medical reason Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) had for not serving in the Bundeswehr was based on a physical illness or hospital stay when he was 12 years old. It was not psychological in nature.
Unrelated, Arnhild Kaess states that the reason her brother Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess left for America is that he wanted more independence. Also, he had psychological issues with his step mom Hildegard Golz (1924-2004).

Title: Paul Ernst Kaess vinyard lookup
Post by: briankaess on Tuesday 12 January 21 21:11 GMT (UK)
Martin Heim of Germany says he had the pleasure of being with Paul Ernst Kaess in the vinyard one year before he died. As far as he knows, Paul sold the vinyard. Martin cannot locate the vinyard without a parcel number or being taken physically to the vinyard. If he could have someone in Benningen show him the vinyard, then he could find the parcel number and owner.
Title: Paul Ernst Kaess & Emil Kaess Guild Record documents
Post by: briankaess on Monday 18 January 21 19:49 GMT (UK)
On January 18, 2021, Brian Paul Kaess received a batch of 18 documents/scans for two Carpentry Guild files from the Staatsarchiv Ludwigsburg, in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The signature or file numbers for the two files were EL 902/15 Bü 1083 (for Paul Ernst Kaess) (16 scans) and EL 901/15 Bü 12 (for Emil Kaess) (2 scans). Many of these documents in the first file (Paul Ernst Kaess) were similar to a Denazification File received two years earlier in 2019. It appears, at this stage, that Denazification File documents were thrown into the Guild Record  file.

The documents for Paul Ernst Kaess Guild Record are loaded at the following link: https://brian-paul-kaess.webnode.co.uk/documents/

The documents were given various names corresponding to their content, etc.; Arbeitsblatt, Arbeitsblatt Stamps, Arbeitsblatt Stamps 2, Income & Asetts, Check List, Check List 2, Contents, Correspondence, Cover, Denanazification Registration Form, Essay, Foreign Service, Meldebogen, , Meld 2, Miltary Service, Party Info, Meldebogen Emil Kaess, Meldebogen 2 Emil Kaess.

Emil Kaess is mentioned as a 'Schreiner' or Carpenter in his registration form or Meldebogen. It also shows that he was not a member of the Nazi party or NSDAP. His birthday is 15.10.1889. Born in Benningen.

Hartmut Obst of the Staatsarchiv Ludwigsburg says of the Denazification file for Paul Ernst Kaess:
"the scans from EL 902/15 Bü 10835 should complete the archival reproduction or process; the difference between the number of scans and the number of pages results from the fact that scans were made of double pages. The documents of carpenters 'guilds and carpenters' guilds kept here in
Oberamt Ludwigsburg are too old to mention Paul Ernst Käß."

During Brian Paul Kaess' vacation to Europe in 1990, He was given fine 'China' dishes by Margaret Jane Swartz Langley (1914-1997) to present to the family in Germany as a gift. Brian did so, presenting them to Paul Ernst Kaess in Spring 1990. Margaret was an antique dealer and the dishes were selected for their high quality. A motif of one of the dishes was the Revolutionary War and this dish was colored red, white, & blue, with fine gold-plated lining. The dishes were a gift from one grandparent to another grandparent.

Title: Paul Ernst Kaess 1st marriage record in Ratibor
Post by: briankaess on Thursday 17 June 21 22:51 BST (UK)
Familysearch has updated their catalog with many Catholic parish records for Ratibor, Upper Silesia. I found a roll at the Granite Mountain Record Vault: film # 2085510 Item 1, DGS # 8022129. This is for Marriages for Katholisches Kirche St. Johannes Baptist Ostrog in Ratibor for the time period 1910-1945. Ostrog is the old name for St. Johannes Parish Church in Ratibor. Paul Ernst Kaess' record should be there (1944 marriage record to Doris Dorschke) , but one may have to wait till it is accesible at the Big House instead of the Vault.

Title: Kaess Family from the Neckar Valley (2019) Book Review
Post by: briankaess on Monday 30 October 23 00:26 GMT (UK)
Kaess Family from the Neckar Valley (2019) by Brian Paul Kaess is virtually a manuscript in a register-style format that provides a useful blueprint of the Kaess Family in Germany and North America, and acts as a ground for further research. It traces the Kaess Family from its origins in SW Germany through the main Immigrant Ancestor Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess (1947-1972) who arrived in Chicago in 1965. He was born in Heutingsheim, Germany. Other lines of the Family, including a Dorschke/Drozdzok Silesian Line of the Prussian Parition,  are mentioned. In addition, allied Urbina/Pereda Mexican Family lines are explored as well.
The Book was written with the attitude that, 'If you don't write the Family Book now, it will never be written.' The Author, Brian Paul Kaess, has acted as a faithful Scribe for the family. 52 pages, including bibliography. It is available online at Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center and also Familysearch.org in their respective catalogs. Also, try paper copies at the Midwest Genealogy Center and Library of Virginia.
