I need help finding Grace Roberts (nee Thomas) death record. She was born 1820 in Liverpool, married Edwin Roberts, who I think also went by the name of Thomas Roberts. The last record I have for her is the 1871 census, living in Raymond street with husband and son John.

Hi Rosezi,
There are a couple of possibles on freebmd as follows:
Roberts, Grace; June Qtr 1904; Age 83; W Derby (West Derby) Registration district; Vol 8b Page 202.
Roberts, Grace; Sept Qtr 1901; Age 79; Liverpool Registration district; Volume 8b Page 47.
West Derby registration district covers some of the Liverpool area as well.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
David

purely by deduction
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk has the 1901 death as St Thomas ,Liverpool
St Thomas is on Pall Mall in Liverpool
Raymond Street is 9 streets away from St Thomas - so it would suggest the 1901 death - but I can't be certain - you would need the death cert
:)

The last record I have for her is the 1871 census, living in Raymond street with husband and son John.
In 1871 husband is shown as Thomas and address is Tatlock St - not Raymond St. Son John was aged 9yrs
Have you looked for husband/son in later censuses?

Many thanks for the help everyone..
I think it is the correct Grace Roberts living in Tatlock street on the 1871 census. They lived in Raymond street back in 1861, a few doors away from her parents John and Emma Thomas at no. 89 Raymond Street. Her husband Thomas was christened Edwin, taken from their marriage banns record in 1841.

John & Emma Thomas were aged 41 and 40 in 1861 so could not possibly be Grace's parents given Grace was born 1820
The marriage of Edwin Roberts and Grace Thomas was in 1840 at Our Lady & St. Nicholas & St. Anne so there cannot be a banns record in 1841
The Thomas & Grace Roberts in 1861 were childless

This is the 1851 census for Grace Roberts - shown as Robert
Ann Thomas 69 widow b Anglesea
Thomas son 42 unmarried ditto
Jane dtr 32 unmarried b Liverpool

I have an uneasy feeling about several aspects of the info here
Marriage in 1840 - no children until 1861
Marries as Edwin but census entries show Thomas
There is a marriage on 18.9.1849 at St Nicholas between a widow Grace Roberts father John Thomas occ labourer and a Thomas Roberts (bachelor) occ mariner - father Griffith Roberts coastguard
Address for both was Gascoyne St
On the 1840 marriage cert - Grace Thomas's father was John occ labourer and her address was Gascoyne St

Hi,
Following on from Carole's post above, I have checked FreeBMD for deaths for Edwin Roberts between 1840 & 1849 & there are three possibles, as listed below:
Roberts, Edwin; December Qtr 1841; Liverpool registration district; Volume 20 Page 260
Roberts, Edwin; September Qtr 1846; Liverpool reg dist; Vol 20 Page 498
Roberts, Edwin; June Qtr 1849; Liverpool reg dist; Vol 20 Page 192
None of the above appear on lancsbmd unfortunately.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
David

Apologies for the late reply, and thanks for the searches.
I meant to say that John Thomas was Grace's brother and not her father. It looks like Grace was married twice, her first marriage to a Edwin Roberts was on 17th Jan 1840 and then in 1849 to Thomas Roberts, both at St Nicholas Church. But it looks like she may have only had the one child.
