Title: Parents of Catherine Mara, baptised 19 March, 1826

Hello!

I've found what I believe to be the baptismal records for my great great grandmother Catherine Mara in the parish registers of Borrisokane. Catherine was baptised on 19 March 1826 and I've attached the extract to this post as I'm having trouble deciphering the names.

I'm pretty sure Catherine's father is Michael Mara but have her mother as M. Kennedy. Is it safe to assume that the "M" is Mary? I have the godparents as Joseph Kennedy and Jan Tierney (?) and Catherine was from Curragh...

Would people agree with my assumptions/reading of the baptismal record...?

I think your correct.
The mother may be Mary but worth checking for other children to this couple.

I took your advice and found another child (can't quite make out the name) baptised on 21 August, 1828 to father Mick Mara and mother May Kennedy. Godfather looks the same as before as does the location of Curragh..

So I was close - May rather than Mary!

PS Edit: The other child's name looks to be Sara...

May and Mary are usually interchangeable, so you may find her under both, it would depend on which priest wrote it.

KENNEDY   Mary   1864   age 51   Curraghmore   Rhody / Mary TIERNEY - dead   (Borrisoleigh)(Widow) Pd   by Son = Pat Kennedy ,Enfield .   Ship =   Sandringham

This is part of the TIPPEM1 list, Curragh in Borrisokane was Curraghmore, it's down near Finnoe.
