Hi to all,
I have a marriage licence record for Brough under Stainmore for John Ellwood & Ann Waistell 1798. However, I am having trouble reading the "adresses" of the bride and groom.
John Ellwood of Thorney something? And Ann of Strickgill?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Are you able to re-scan it and make it any bigger possibly?
In the meantime, I've had a little go at resizing it for you - I'm not sure if it helps at all (there's a lot of noise on it).

I'm pretty sure it says Thorney Scale

I think the other one is Strickgill which cane be seen here, a short distance from Thorney Scale, as Stricegill

Looking again I think it could well say Stricegill rather than Strickgill. There is a Waistell family at Stricegill in 1841.

Thanks very much for your help!
Thorney Scale & Strickgill look correct.
I cannot rescan as I only have the electronic doc.

As I said in my previous posting, I now think that your original says Stricegill: what I took for 'k' is in fact an oversized 'e' :D
It is certainly called Stricegill in the 1841 census.
