Title: Pub History
Post by: Black Adder on Saturday 12 December 15 17:28 GMT (UK)
I have posted here about my maternal Grandfather - Arthur Lloyd Jones - and my researches have lead me on to his brother (my Grand Uncle) Herbert Lloyd Jones (b1888).  It would seem that he was at one time a publican at the New Inn Bryneglwys near Corwen.  The cutting below from the Corwen & District Notes in 1916 gives some detail.
Does anyone know the history of this pub or its publicans (in particular Herbert) or any information about his brother in law and his mother.  His mother was Mary Lloyd Jones although I can't find any reference to her living at Bronderwen.

A look on the newspaper archives suggests the tenants in the 1890s & 1900s are a HUghes fmaily (Mrs hughes dies July 1910)

it was sold in 1891 - http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3768479/3768483/53/  (the image won;t come up for me at present though and the OCR text on the page is a bit iffy)

:) Thought so, maybe a look at the 1911 would be a guide?

Many thanks, Wilcoxon. If you look at earlier posts on this thread it gives the Hughes family as owners before the Jones family took over the pub.

Bit of a necro post I know but I am the new owner of the new inn, bryneglwys. If ever you want to come and have a look you are welcome. It is currently a bit of a state. It is striped ready for refurb and a lot of the original features are visible.

Thanks Boristherat for this post. If you look back over this thread you will see how I started it trying to ascertain my ancestral links.  Attached is a photo of the WW1 attestation papers for the person I am assuming to be my relative and this shows him residing at the New Inn.  However, I am still not 100% sure that that this is the same person.
