Title: Trying to trace the HAMILTON family from the outskirts of Carndonagh
Post by: jamesnana on Friday 23 July 04 03:30 BST (UK)
I really need some help here. My grandfather's name was Patrick Joseph Hamilton. He was born in May of 1900 between Carndonagh and Glentogher. His parents, Joseph and Cecilia Hamilton had a farm there. My grandpa was the oldest of at least 12 children. Out of all the children my grandpa and great aunt Mary were the only ones to come to North America. My great uncle Phillip went to Hamilton, Scotland. I am trying to find information on hte family. My great uncle John lived all his life on the farm until he passssed on. If anyone out there knows anything on this family please reply to this.

There's a Patrick Joseph Hamilton aged 1 in the 1901 census at a house in Bridge Street, Carndonagh and his parents are Cecily and James Hamilton.  Patrick has an older sister.  Here's a link to the handwritten entry:

Yes.  ??? But I only looked at it because of the recent posts as I was looking to see what was new since the last time I looked at the Donegal forum. I did not notice the date of the original post.

One of my mother's Dougherty cousins married a McCool. And the brother and sister of the James Hamilton who was mayor of Londonderry both came out to NZ in the 1920s in company with two of the same Dougherty family. They shared a house at first then my grandparents bought the plot of land next door.

Cheers

Linda (NZ).

I think it’s the same family I’m trying to trace.  My great grandfather was a Charles Hamilton birth 1877, he had an older brother John, there  oldest sister was a Mary who I believe married a McIntyre he died after a year of marriage to Mary Hamilton on 1901 census Mary and brother Charles are living together and 1911, the ages are off but I believe this is them, the parents of Charles, John and Mary and others Rose been one of them of the top of my head were Daniel Hamilton and ? McLaughlin I’d need to look at my records as it’s been a while since I looked at them.  Charles went on to marry Mary Duffy in 1918 having 8 children Annie married name Kearney, Margaret Mary married name McLaughlin, Bridget married name Grant, William married a Mary Stewart, Daniel never married but had two children that carried the Hamilton name. There were also 3 children died  young Rose, Charles and Joseph.

Thanks for adding the links on the last you will find Charles marriage and his two daughters Annie and Margaret’s marriage William and Bridget and not on it yet you will also find deaths of Rose, Joseph and Charles, this family are mostly buried in Drung Chapel.  Charles Hamilton wife Mary Ms Duffy children Joseph, Rose, Charles and Dan are remembered on the one head stone but, the dates of death and ages for the 3 young children are different from the records, children Annie married name Kearney and Bridget married name Grant are also in this burial ground.
