I am trying to find out what happened to my husband's aunt. I'm afraid I don't have many dates or full name so don't know if I stand any chance of finding her!! She was
(*) LOCK born in Chorlton, Manchester in mid 1920's. Father was George Herbert Lock, mother Elizabeth Ann Watson. The family story goes she married a man called Rusty and went to live in Albuquerque, New Mexico in early 50's, she divorced and married someone else but family lost all contact.
I have searched and came up with https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QJGM-P5GX a
(*) Loc which is a possibility but I don't know where to go from there.
Anybody got any suggestions

Was she married before she left England ?
-
Exact date of birth may help to locate information about her in U.S. Social Security records if she has died but if she was born mid-1920s then there's also a good chance she is still alive.
-
I don't think she was married in England and I think Rusty was an American. As for date of birth - her brothers Robert 1921, Norman 1923, Frank 1925 (in France) I'm sure she was younger than them.
-
Their mother was Elizabeth Ann Watson, father George Herbert Lock - he married twice to Mary Wilson so I'm not sure which mother they had.
-
U.S. marriages are kept by the individual state and not all recent records are online. You could try checking for a marriage in England here (but 'Rusty' is likely a nickname)-
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Have you checked outgoing U.K. passenger lists in case she was unmarried when she went to U.S.? (I think Ancestry and Find My Past might have them but both are subscription sites)
I searched FreeBMD site in order to narrow down her birthdate using mother's maiden name as Watson and can't see any likely registration. However, as I said earlier, it's possible she is still alive.
-
Yes, I had checked for birth date but couldn't find one. I suppose she could have been in Louvril in France like Frank.
-
looks like her death Marguerite Olive Karaszewski birth date 21 Feb 1929 London
Father George H Lock
Mother Mary Watson
U S Social Security Applications Claims Index
Her name is listed as Marguerite O Russell on her U S Social Security Index

It looks like she was living in Tucson, Arizona in 1957 when she petitioned for naturalization.
-
There is a possible birth transcribed on FreeBMD which might be her- actual page looks like Marguerite O.A. Lock-
Marguerite C.A. Lock (mother Watson) Jan./Mar.1929 Pancras district

It looks like she was living in Tucson, Arizona in 1957 when she petitioned for naturalization.
Under Marguerite Olive Annie which fits the birth registration I just found.

Possible record for husband on www.findagrave.com 2012 birth matches in with record from her Naturalization records ...

Thanks very much to everyone for finding that information for me, it is much appreciated. Did anyone have a death record for her?
Russell must have been her first husband (that's where Rusty came from). The story was she came back to England to tell the family she was naturalised in US. Her father disowned her and she went back to US never to be heard of again!

If you had mentioned that at the start we would have found her sooner ;)

Thank you again Rosie, grateful for your help.

I think Mr. Karaszewski was the first husband, as the naturalization records say she married him in Feb. 1954, 3 days after arriving in the US.
I think Russell was the name that she died with, as she is on the Social Security Death Index with it https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JRLB-T3T A more detailed version of this says her Social Security number was issued in Michigan in 1954.
Also an obituary for her was under that name: http://obits.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/obit.cgi?Surname=russell%2C+marguerite+o&type=Keyword&Start=50

Thank you very much shellyesq for this information, this gives me something else to go on to continue my search.
I have found the social security record and obits you refer to but still can't find any marriage records for either husband.

I hate to contradict aghadowey but normally BDM records are the responsibility in modern times of:
Births - State
Marriages - County
Deaths - State
Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.
County Clerk's Office
"Bernalillo County Clerk manages voter registration, marriage licenses, property records, and Federal and State elections information for Albuquerque".
-
I said "U.S. marriages are kept by the individual state" but didn't specify where in any state you can obtain a marriage record.
Each U.S. state keeps it's own records and there is no overall registry as in some countries. Location of where to obtain vital records in each state does vary. Yes, in N.M. marriage records are a county responsibility but in the state where I was married I can obtain a certificate of that event from either the town clerk or the state office, not at county level.
In Michigan (where the person in question lived) you can obtain marriage records from The State of Michigan Vital Records Office (although corrections to marriage records have to go through the county clerk)-

The naturalization record says she married Raymond Julian Karaszewski at Tucson, Arizona on 8 Feb. 1954. He was born Detroit, Michigan on 25 Apr. 1933.
This appears to be his burial - http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=104166850&ref=acom I see California marriage records for him from 1964 & 1970, so I guess they were divorced by then.
A passenger list has him coming to England on a US Navy ship in 1951 as a private first class in the US Air Force.

Thanks very much shellyesq, very grateful for your help.
