First post here guys, so sorry if i've made any mistakes!
I was wondering what happened to Margaret Elders. I know that she was born in Bray, County Wicklow in 1900, and that her parents were called Jane Elders(born circa1877) and Charles Elders(born circa1879). Margaret appears on the 1901 census, but then does not appear on the 1911 census. I can only seem to find Charles Elders on the 1911 census, and he has pretty much the same information on the 1901 census, except he seems to have moved to Dublin without Margaret, and is listed as a widower. I believe this to be accurate(looking at marriage and death records) so, where could Margaret have gone? I know she moved to England in the 1950s, but she had a child in Ireland.
Any information would be greatly recieved.

there are 3 school records for her for the years 1903,07 and 1908. Her parents occupation is Plumber..although not named.

Links to the Census are handy.
1901

1911
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Wood_Quay__part_of_/Bloomfield_Cottages/77801/
If she is in hospital she will only be listed by initials.
There is one possible 10 year old but it says born Dublin.

Thankyou, where about's did you find these school records if you don't mind me asking?

In 1911 Charles has 5 children,
Margaret, Richard and Charles, do you know the other 2. Margaret may be with them.
-
According to my father, she definitely has a sister called Alice, however my father always knew her by Sally. Apart from this, I don't know of any other children.
-
Ah think I have them, mother name Jordon
Margaret 1900
Sarah 1901
Thomas 1903
Richard 1905
Charles 1907
The last 4 registered in Dublin.

Mmmm I can see 2 Alice both born Belfast between 1899 and 1911.
-
Weird, I am pretty certain that the mothers maiden name was Jordan, so this would make sense. Do you think that it would be possible for a middle name to be Alice?

Then again, looking at the records, a child called Alice just doesn't seem to add up
-
Alice could be a middle name or just a pet name, it's likely Sally was Sarah.
-
Thanks, that seems to be the most likely option.
-
We need to find Margaret Sarah and Thomas.
They could have been taken in care, in school, listed with a relation's surname, in school and so on.
-
Why would that have happened? If we are going off the 1911 census, then the mother has died(records say 1910), and Richard and Charles are living with Charles's family. The older ones, Margaret, Sarah and Thomas are clearly not there.
-
If Charles or more likely his mother was considered unable to care for 5 children, Lord knows where the older children ended up. Life was very hard for motherless children.
-
Thats really sad, I suppose they must have been taken into care. I'm not too familiar with searching for these type of records, any guidance would be appreciated.
-
There is this Sarah in school
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000142203/
She is the correct age and religion but the surname is dodgy.
Second from the bottom.
Worth noting at least.
-
I would say that surname could well be Elders. If you look at the name above that, it is obviously Farmer and the e and r are joined in the same way as the letters in Elders.
-
Charles and Jane got married 10 July 1899

Yes that all seems to match up.

I was looking at that Farmer name also, nice to see someone thinking the same.

The Jordan's in 1901
Robert has died but the address is the same as the marriage and the son Richard is a bookmaker.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Merchants_Quay/New_Street__Part_/1345496/
Son Robert is a plumber, is that how Jane and Charles met.
Margaret's brother is an Adams
And Richard is living with Adams in 1911 as nephew
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Merchants_Quay__part_of_/Clanbrassil_Street__Lower/77842/
So Jane Elders' parents are Robert Jordan and Margaret Adams.

This is the school where the Sarah who might be Elders is in 1911.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Rathmines___Rathgar_East/Northbrook_Road/50868/
It's a charity school.
http://www.carrschildandfamilyservices.ie/history/
I was hoping the family could afford to send the children to school and if Sarah was than the other two would be in school as well, but now I'm not so sure.

So is there no record of Margaret or Thomas attending this school?

Reading about Lizzy Carr she seems the type to keep family together but I can't see Margaret and there are no boys, but she had 5 houses in Dublin so there could be a boys one somewhere.
I wonder if they would respond to a request for information?
Might be worth a try.

That's a good idea, I'll make sure to contact them. It just seems a bit strange that they would have been split up.

It would be interesting to see the address on Thomas' birth cert.

I agree, would be interesting to see if they are the same people, and if so, I wonder what kind of position he was in at the time.

Charles had 6 siblings alive in 1911.
There is a Thomas Elders a Plumber on Charlemont Street. Possible brother to Charles.
The prison record has Charlemont Road.
I wonder if Thomas could have lived with his Uncle Thomas.

Interesting, it would make sense if the school that Sarah went to was more for girls

Time to get some sleep, you have a lot to look over even if we didn't find Margaret. Try again tomorrow. Good night.

Thank you so much for your efforts tonight, truly appreciated. We will carry on tomorrow. Goodnight

If gortonboy could say where these records are, it could be the breakthrough you need.

I agree, we seem to be able to find everybody except Margaret!
