It has taken many years to find out the identity of a sibling of my great grandfathers. I've discovered a baptism for Mary Ann Kavanagh 1st Jan 1854 Carrick on Suir, Co Tipperary parents James Kavanagh and Mary Murphy. They were stationed at the Barracks at the time. The only other reference that I have to Mary Ann is a record that mentions a child accompanying its father and mother to Carlow in 1867 upon James' discharge from the British Army. Both James Kavanagh and Mary Murphy were from Co Carlow and returned home after a period of 22 years with Mary Ann. I know that James was still somewhere in Co Carlow in 1874. My question is, how can I find out what happened to their daughter Mary Ann? Where do I go from here? Many thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes they were RC and no I'm not in Ireland. I'm in England but do visit Ireland. The problem I've got is that I have no idea in Co Carlow where they went to so no idea of what parish to look in and the NLI records only go up to 1881 and looking for a Mary Kavanagh is like looking for John Smith.

I have searched and found.........
the marriage in Ballon Hill, Carlow, of Mary and James in 1842.
Also in this village is a shop Kavanagh's.
Worth a try.
It seems they also had another daughter Catherine.
That's why I asked are you in Ireland......

Thanks for that, maybe the Kavanagh's didn't move far. I don't have any details for a daughter Catherine. Can I ask where this info is thanks.
