I am trying to find out information about my Great Great Grandfather William Kilpatrick who was born in Coleraine about 1832
William's parents were William Kilpatrick and Jane Smith
William's occupation was listed as an Iron Forger when he married my Great Great Grandmother Catherine McCallum in Kilmarnock,Scotland on 05/11/1852.
William died in Glasgow on 01/05/1916.
I am trying to get an insight to my Irish Ancestry on William's Family.
For example did he have brothers and sisters.
Any assistance in my search would be gratefully appreciated.

There was a William Kilpatrick in Coleraine in mid 1800s- search here (just enter name and county):

An alternative version of the name is Kirkpatrick so you'll need to keep both versions in mind.
No way to tell if the above William is yours- there's also one in Macosquin which is just outside Coleraine.

The surname is most definitely Kilpatrick not Kirkpatrick.
I have tried for some time to find about William but with little success.

Kilpatrick and Kirkpatrick are interchangeable- Kil and Kirk both mean church. In this area at least it's not uncommon to find the same person being recorded with both versions of the surname (I've seen at least one marriage certificate where both versions appear).

I am aware of both of the surnames of Kilpatrick & Kirkpatrick
Both names are branches of the Scottish Clan Colquhoun who hail originally from Luss in Scotland.
I am sure that William's surname is Kilpatrick.
I have checked the Scottish Records and the 1871 Census in Scotland,his marriage to Catherine McCallum in Kilmarnock,Scotland, & his death in Glasgow,Scotland are all registered as Kilpatrick.
Again thank you for your interest in my search for one of my three Irish families who I am descended from.
Who knows I might have luck with the others

I think you might be missing my point. It doesn't matter that William's name was Kilpatrick if someone else recorded it as Kirkpatrick (as is often the case in Ulster). Therefore when searching for records here you need to consider both versions of the name.

William's mother's maiden name was listed in the Scottish Records as Jane Smith.
I note that William's landlord in Macosquin is listed as Andrew Smith.
I note that there is a number of people listed in this area with the surname Smith.
Could Jane Smith be related to any of these Smiths?
Where could I find a marriage for William Kilpatrick/Kirkpatrick and Jane Smith in this area.

William Kilpatrick in Griffith's Valuation is listed in the townland of Ballintaggart, Macosquin Parish You can use the Valuation Revision Books at www.proni.gov.uk to follow the property from Griffith's until c1930.

My great grandfather John Kilpatrick who lived in Crevolea and elsewhere n Macosquin (also known by Kirkpatrick) was son of a William Kilpatrick of Ballintaggart. I believe William's wife was Margaret Patterson. They married in 1855 in Coleraine Registry Office. There are any number of William and John Kilpatricks/ Kirkpatricks, marrying any number of women in the area round Coleraine; i have notes of some of them, but how they relate; where they come from, I don't know. Probably we are related?? Re Kilpatrick/ Kirkpatrick. Earlier they seem to have used the Kilpatrick form; in later generations Kirkpatrick, which I suggest by then sounded more Scottish, more Protestant??

I hope it is not too late to join this topic on the Kilpatrick family? ;D My Kilpatrick family were protestant and were from either Derry or Armagh. James Kilpatrick was my GG grandfather, a linen draper who migrated from Dublin to Victoria, NSW, however his grave states he was born in Armagh and a note in my dad's scrap book says he was from Derry. He called his shop Ulster House. He named one of his children William Frederick Kilpatrick and that name carried on with another sister naming her son William Frederick Kilpatrick Wise. So the two names seem familial. Another son was called James John Thomas Kilpatrick. Yet another one was Alfred Hayes Kilpatrick. No ideas but pretty significant names. His father was listed on his marriage record as James Kilpatrick, farmer. Cheers Virginia

My Great Great Grandfather was born about 1832 in Coleraine about 1832. H emigrated to Scotland and married my Great Great Grandmother in Kilmarnock,Scotland in 1852. His Irish parents were William Kilpatrick and Jane Smith. Whether William had any siblings I do not know as I have found the Irish Records not the greatest for doing any research William Kilpatrick was protestant.
