Evalin or 'Evie' Haller Gibbony, b. Jun 12 1858 in Wythe Co, Virginia, d. Feb 26 1937 in Richmond, Virginia, m. Aug 7 1888 to John Edward Major in Wytheville, VA. She was deaf at the age of 2 from scarlet fever. She was said by family to have studied at Gallaudet College. Two children. Buried in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Middlebrook, VA. Brian Kaess’ 2nd Gr. Grandparents
Evie Haller Gibboney was married to John Edward Major (d.1913)? and had two daughters named Gayry Elizabeth Gibboney Major (Elizabeth G. Swartz in some sources) and Emily P. Major or Emily Bright Major, aka ‘Aunt Emily’. ‘Aunt Emily’ is mentioned as being born Aug 6 1894 in Augusta, Virginia, and dying on Nov 13 1946 in Richmond, Virginia.
I initially had Emily as Emily P. Major, but this may be a mistake.
Emily P. Major, or ‘Aunt Emily’, was married to Napoleon Bailey Blackwell. It is believed they had several children.
I am looking for any info on Evalin ‘Evie’ Haller Gibboney and Emily P. Major, her daughter. Any verification of vital dates would be great.

A correction is necessary to the original entry. Evie Haller Gibboney was NOT married to Robert E Gibboney (1810-1867). Robert E Gibboney was her Father. Evie H Gibboney was married to John Edward Major. Thanks Sandra for all your help.

Some more info on Evie's .
The Majors owned a hotel. Robert E Lee stayed there. The Majors were quite well off. There is a story about one of the Gibboneys having a problem with a slave burning down his business. Seems the slave was mad that his wife had been sold. Hard times.

Gibboney originally stems from Gibney in Ireland and means 'lock of hair' in Gaelic or Irish.
