Title: Wolis and Biberfeld families from Warsaw
Post by: salt on Monday 18 January 16 16:26 GMT (UK)
Hello
Looking for any information on Abraham WOLIS (later WALLIS) and Josephine BIBERFELD from Warsaw, who arrived in Manchester, England c 1890. I have UK census details. Thanks.

You have not given details of their respective birthyears

Did they arrive as a married couple - meaning they married outside England - or did they marry in England?

If you have them in 1911 - how many years do they say they have been married?

According to the C1901 and C1911 they were  both Warsaw residents, and had been married for 27 years. They were married in and produced several children in Warsaw, arriving in M/c about 1891.  Calculating their birthyears from the census they were both born around 1866. C1901 shows Josephine's father Abraham living with them. Apologies, I should have included this info.

Unfortunately, incoming shipping lists were not kept for ships sailing from Europe into UK ports.

I think Abraham Wolis' father may have been a Louis. Here is a 1901
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/Edinburgh/issue/11357/page/1313/data.pdf

and census records for Louis/Lewis and family:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X9VV-LQY

Louis/Lewis died in 1908, and you can find his burial mentioned here:

 (payment for full info).

I would recommend you focus on Jewish genealogy sources in Manchester and surrounds and try and confirm who the extended family were - there also seems to be a possible brother for Josephine, Gustav.

Many thanks for this Jorose.  I have looked at this family several times, and - because of the similarities in names of children - been convinced that there was a connection. I thought maybe Abraham's brother, but now tend towards his father.  I'll follow up the MDCS link.

Hi mczite ,

We are not allowed to display email  addresses and personal information in replies. Once you have made 3 posts you should be able to send salt a private message and can then exchange email addresses privately if you both wish.

Good luck

Hi sorry about that.

The system wouldn't let me have more than 1 private message in my account.

I think you should try and change that as it does not really let the site be so productive, especially if you'd prefer to keep people within the website.

As a website designer myself thats quite a major flaw.

As the immediate thing people would try and do is connect and if they can't here they can go elsewhere.

Hi again,

There isn't any restriction on the number of PMs that you can send or receive. As a new member you just have to have to have made 3 postings before you can use the PM system and as you've just done that it should be ok now.

Hi Salt

I can see you have been researching this family tree. Are you able to share your findings? I believe I am related to the people you have mentioned and understand there have been a few name changes over the years and would love to see what you have found. Are you researching for yourself?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance

Nathan

Hi

My Great Great Great Grandfather was Levek Wolis from Warsaw, his grandson Abraham Wallis was married to Josephine Biberfeld, my great grandmother.

Does that tally with you?

Thank you
