Trying to find the Death Notice and Obituary in Prestatyn Newspaper for my late grandfather T E Hughes MM of Y Coed, Bishops Wood Road, Prestatyn. Fore name may be spelt Thomas or Tomas. Buried St Melyd Church yard. Sometime 1947 to 49/50. :)

Hi and welcome to Rootschat
Can you give his full second christian name please as Hughes is a very common surname. Also either his age when he died or his birthyear
Prestatyn came under the St Asaph Registration District at that time and although there are Thomas Hughes deaths there between 1947-1950 - there are no Thomas E Hughes or Tomas Hughes

About when was he born?Though Carole is correct in that deaths in Prestatyn were listed in the St Asaph Registration District,St Asaph is one of those peculiar Districts in that their records are listed under Denbighshire.
Regards
William Russell Jones..

Nowadays the weekly newspaper for Prestatyn is called the Rhyl Journal.
-
I think it was called the Prestatyn and Rhyl Journnal in the 1940's before the two towns merged in 1973 under local government reorganisation. My grandfather's full name was Thomas Edward Hughes, born I believe in Meliden (St Asaph district registration) about 1892 - died spring 1949. Married Edith Margaret Parry in 1919/20 (?). She was born in Newmarket (St Asaph district) 03/08/1903. He was awarded the MM (Military Medal sometime in 1914/ 1915 serving in France. Later served in Palestine. Member of the Flintshire and Denbeighshire Yeomanry. I have lost the copy of the newspaper report of his death/ obituary and an trying to recover the details.

So, death date was early April 1949. Might help locate the obit.

Marriage could be Sept Q 1921 Holywell District (freebmd and North Wales bmd). The Holywell district includes Newmarket
Edith Margaret Parry and Thomas Hughes

The Flintshire Record Office has some of the Rhyl / Prestatyn newspapers.

Perhaps the obit will be in one of the papers in their collection. Covering 1949...
Prestatyn Weekly 1890-1950 (on microfilm)
Rhyl Leader 1949-1956 (hard copies)
Rhyl Journal - 1866-1950 (microfilm...but it says there are gaps)

His "Abode" in the burial register (on FindMyPast) is "Y Coed, Bishop's Wood Road, Prestatyn"
-
"Y Coed" (The Wood), Bishops Wood Road, Prestatyn was the family home from 1935 (?) until 1969/ 1970 when my grandmother moved into Prestatyn town, Dawson Crescent, Bryn Rosen where she lived until her death in July 1984. Previously the family lived in Newmarket with my Great Grandmother, Parry, opposite the Black Boy Inn; now demolished

If you have access to the 1939 Register on findmypast, you can see Thomas's birthdate. You know the address and Edith's birthdate already, so the family is easy to find. The last family member listed is on the next page...so make sure you look at both pages. :)
