Title: Henry Froom BECK of Newbury
Post by: VillageDuckpond on Thursday 21 January 16 15:22 GMT (UK)
I have just discovered that I am a descendant of Henry Froom BECK, the well-known Newbury Town Crier who died in 1872. Are there any other descendants? If so, I would love to hear from you.

Have you looked in Surname Interests, under Your Tools, below, to see if anyone is researching this surname and area?

Thank you for your reply. Funnily enough I had a look last night but found nothing so added my BECK and GRAVES.

He was my husband's great great grandfather.   Henry Froom Beck's son was John Nathaniel Beck born 1832, whose daughter was Sylvia Beck, whose daughter was Annie French, whose son was Edward Walsh (my husband).   I have more detailed information if you'd like it.

Hello VillageDuckpond,
I had a query on the Gloucester board regarding a missing Maria Hannah Elizabeth CORBETT who was tracked down, with help. She had married Henry Froom/Frome BECK c1858-1896, son of John BECK & Matilda PARGETER and brother of Sylvia. Capetown referred me to the Berkshire Board and this thread so thought I would pop in and say hello. You may already have all the information about Maria & Henry, but good to meet another family member, however distant :)

How interesting to hear from you Heather.   Your John Beck was the eldest brother of Annie Beck.  She was my husband's grandmother.    I have John and Maria as having four children.

Hello Margaret,
Yes that seems to be the same John c1832, born to Henry & Elizabeth BECK,  I have him marrying Matilda Pargeter 1854, Henry was born to them c1858  and married Maria 1878 and my records show 5 children Henry 1879, Maud Matilda 1882, Harry 1887, Lily Lavinia 1890 and Lottie reg Jun 1896 about 6 months after the death of Henry.
But all subject to correction, which one don't you have?
Cheers

ahh, I have John/Matilda Beck having eight children as follows....
Emma Matilda born 1855 Newbury.
Henry born 1857 Newbury
Elizabeth born 1859 Newbury
Fanny born 1860 East Garston, Berks
Mary born 1862 Gloucester.
George Froom Beck born 1865 Gloucester
Sylvia born 1869 Gloucester
Annie born 1873 Gloucester

I didn't have Maud Matilda born 1882 as one of the children of Henry and Maria so I shall now add that to the family tree.
many thanks
margaret

Heather, I must apologise as I never saw this message from you!
Henry is a very distant connection, to be honest, as he is on my adoptive mother's line but still very interesting.
Btw the present Town Crier has invited me down to Newbury when I wish to go! Have you been put in touch with him via Margaret Walsh?
Also, am I right in understanding that you are in Napier, New Zealand?

No haven't been in touch with the Town Crier, you are correct and I do live in Napier NZ so probably would never be able to get to see him/her in action anyway, take photos for us when you do go.

Would you like me to put you in touch with the Town Crier? I am sure he would be pleased to hear from you as years ago he was trying very hard to find HF descendants.

Also, there is a very interesting website about Newbury Newtown Cemetery and our 'friends' renovated gravestone.
