Title: Trying to find William DUFFIN
Post by: NicolaasMars on Tuesday 26 January 16 19:47 GMT (UK)
On 16 Aug 1882, William DUFFIN married Margaret PARLE in the Chapel of Duncannon, Co. Wexford.
I can find this couple in the 1901 and 1911 censuses when they live in Graigue Little, Templetown, Co. Wexford. However, I have been unable to find the birth or baptism of William Duffin. According to the census data, he should have been born around 1863 in Co. Wexford. His father's name (from the marriage certificate) was Frank Duffin. I looked in rootsireland.ie and in irishgenealogy.ie, without success. William died on 6 May 1935, still in Graigue Little, aged 73.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am doing my research from The Netherlands, and not very well versed in the intricacies of Irish genealogy.

RootsIreland dont have all Wexford parishes and birth probably before 1864 so too early for index on IrishGenealogy, try the register images in the National Library site
I think St. James for that area

1911
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wexford/Templetown/Graigue__Little/687816/

He is RC so the place to look is here http://registers.nli.ie/

need to figure out which parish Duncannon is in first, find the marriage and work back, hopefully he and his wife came for the same parish.

Edited to add, pretty much what Athacliath62 said

worth a better search but had a quick search in St. James/Templetown - not very clear but poss. Patrick Duffin as a father for one baptism - it's the 4th line on the second part of the page

William may not be from this parish, what was his address on the marriage ?

somewhere to start - baptism of a Catherine Duffin 1860 at Ramsgrange in the parish of St. James & Hook - parents Frank Duffin & Ann Spellins?

born 29th March, bapt 30th

I think Graige little would be St. James and Templetown

Ah the marriage is 1882, the register doesn't go that far. I was hoping it would give his mother.

Thank you all very much, especially "athacliath62" for finding the person I have been searching for! It was indeed known (as family folklore) that William was one of twins, and also known that he remarried in 1922.

I am very impressed with the speed with which my problem was solved. Thanks again.
