I'm trying to find the parents of Frederick Rowland Haslam of Clay Cross area. b.1885-6, killed 1/7/1916, France. He is remembered on the war memorial at St Martins Church, Low Marple.
-
Probably best to get the birth certificate to be sure but there is a Fred age 3 on the 1891 census born Clay Cross with parents Samuel and Rebecca.
-
Ah this looks to be the birth registration for the one you want
Mar 1896 Chesterfield
Haslam Fred Rowland
7b 684
Sorry that's too old for the one you want :-[

Hi Milliepede
Thank you for your prompt reply.
The 1896 date is a strong possibility, the original date passed to me was 1896, which is most likely wrong.
Is it possible to trace who Fred Rowland Haslam's parents were.
regards
Bill

Sorry Milliepede.
1885-6 is wrong.

Looks like James & Ann.
1901 census has a Fred R born Chesterfield age 5 with those parents plus a sister Jessie age 4 :)
-
17017 Pte Fred Haslam killed 1st July 1916 has military records available. One of the pages gives parents as James and Harriet Haslem of 7 Queens Terrace Edlington Doncaster.
-
Siblings: Jessie Lindsay Haslam, Mary Haslam and Douglas Haslam.
-
Marriage in 1894 James Haslam and Harriet Rowland so that explains the middle name.
-
Thank you Milliepede and sgf28 for your replies, greatly appreciated.
Yes, that's him. His home address was just a few miles away from where I lived in Doncaster.
You've solved two more mysteries for me, I was looking for Jessie Haslam and why Frederick's middle name was Rowland.
I'll be able to sort out his siblings now.
Kind regards
Bill

Thank you rolnora.
You've filled in another couple of blanks.
I believe other members of the family belonged to the Primitive Methodist Chapel at Clay Cross, Chesterfield.
Kind regards
