I'm planning a trip to Ettrick to trace where my grandfathers family came from. Are there many churches or graveyards that may hold some clues as to what happened to them? The family home was at Cossarshill and as far as I'm aware is still there.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

laurie81 I transcribed Ettrick Yarrow and Kirkhope where they could have been buried. If you let me know who you are looking for i will try and help you before your visit. A quick check finds families of Anderson, Burnets, Laidlaws and Moffats living at one time in Cossarshill and are all in Ettrick cemetery. all transcriptions are on Cd from Selkirk Antiquarians . Let me know who you are interested in.\

To search for other place go to the home page and put the placename in the keyword box, leaving the name blank then from the search results select a census entry and you should be able to click through and see the place on the maps.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just back from my trip and found MACKINNONs in the Ettrick cemetery. There were fresh plot markers for other MACKINNONs next to one of the two headstones that we found. Are these maybe bought plots for family still living? We found no living MACKINNONs in the area. Where would I find the records for who these new plots are for?

Laurie the Scottish Borders council at Newtown st boswells hold the burial and lair maps for all the border cemeteries they should be able to help.
