I have a James DAVINE / DEVINE born Madras circa 1825. Son of John and an Emma. Is there anyone with this family on their tree ?
James married Mary Hogan in Barnsley in 1857 and gave Madras as his birthplace on the 1861 census also in Barnsley.

Watching this thread with interest.
Have you had a look at fbis website.

I hope this man is NOT your Person. But some of the details match up and bearing in mind I do not think there were any coal mines near where he was in 1891 which means he must have come from somewhere else which did have them.

That 1891 census entry is for Dartmoor prison

The miner in Dartmoor in 1891 was serving a 7 year sentence of penal servitude for a serious offence against a 12 year old girl in Wath upon Dearne in 1886. Convicted 8/11/86, released 26/4/1892.

The info. on here has been of great help thank you.
Mary DEVINE age 22 married John HEFFREN at St Josephs RC Chapel on 21 May 1884. She is my wife's Great Grandmother. There is no record of Thomas Ernest living with them (Mary's illigitimate son).
I do not have her father James prison history except the 1891 census Dartmoor location. What happened to him following release is unknown. Mary had her mother Mary (HOGAN) living with her in Darwen, Lancs in 1901.
Death & Burials unknown.
On my database there are records for birth & baptism of a John DIVINE son of James & Amelia in 1826, Vipery, Madras Presidency, India. James is an Apothacary.
The only James baptism I have found is 25 Aug 1822, St Wilfrid RC, York, son of John & Anne (IGI)

This one died;
JOHN Devine birth 1826
burial:
26 December 1843
Madras, India
Parents JAMES/AMELIA Devine
Do you have the 1857 Marriage Cert?
What is his Fathers Occupation?
Witnesses names?
Trish :)

Both her & his father are coal miners.
Writing on the cert. is hard to read. Witnesses are NOT Devine or Heffrin. Looks like James Myles & Susannah Busnan or Rusman.

Thanks for that but I cant seem to find anything that helps.

James Devine and Mary Hogan are my ancestors. They are very hard to research but we have discovered that when James was released from Dartmoor prison, he was released to Clara in Wigan and passed away 18 June 1892 with Clara's husband Thomas Ryan in attendance at his death. We have yet to find what happened to Mary (Hogan), so would appreciate any info 😁
