Title: Field Houses Lochwinnoch
Post by: pharmaT on Tuesday 23 February 16 14:28 GMT (UK)
In 1841 and 1851 my ancestors were living in Field Houses, Lochwinnoch.  I have been been trying to work out where this is on a modern map with no luck so far.  Does anyone know where they were?

pharma,

Who are at Field House please, I would like to take a look at the adjoining properties because I see no Field House in any of the old maps.

The 1857 map of the area has what looks like a row of houses next to the Mill Lead named "Oldfield" - on a modern map this would be between Viewfield Avenue and McConnell Road at the western end of both streets

It was Matthew Smith and his wife Janet who were living there.  Matthew was born about 1813.

Field Houses is definitely a tenement there are over 8 pages of residents and shops.  The next place identified is on New Street.  The previous is Main Street therefore Field Houses are the tenements on Calder St., heading north off Main. http://maps.nls.uk/view/74965607
