Title: George Arment (died 1825) Family - Need Info
Post by: JamesBond on Sunday 28 February 16 14:25 GMT (UK)
I'm researching the Arment family that lived in Middlesex in the 1700's & 1800's. Earliest member I can find thus far is a George Arment who died in 1825 Whitechapel, London. Was married to, I believe, a Harriet, who died in 1817. I think they had a son Thomas in the mid 1780's. Would like to get more info on George, including parents names & grandparents, as much info if possible & a death date for Thomas. Early members of the family were associated wuth St Botolph Aldgate, if that helps. Any & all assistance appreciated.

I think they had a son Thomas in the mid 1780's.

Have you found a baptism for Thomas

Is it your George who has place of birth as Westminster and is married to Elizabeth (1851)

My George would've been born around 1755. I haven't found anything about his birth, just the death date. His son Thomas had a son George who married a Sophia Atrell in 1837. That George died in 1850. So he couldn't have married Elizabeth. In the 1841 census for Middlesex, it says Thomas was born between 1784-1786 in Middlesex. Are there any church records available online that I could search for his birth or that might hold info on Arments whk lived in that area?

The parish registers for London & Middlesex deposited at the London Metropolitan Archives can be found online at Ancestry.

Parish registers for the City of Westminster can be found at FindMyPast.

Incomplete transcriptions for both can be found at Family Search.

There was a Thomas Jr born in the family about 1818. He might be the one who married Elizabeth.

I've tried familysearch.org & exhausted my research there  which brought me here. Looking to get past the 1780's, but I don't have an ancestry account, which means I'll have to go somewhere that does.

The Thomas I was looking at was living in Marylebone in 1851 age 63 a Coach Plate Iron monger born Westminster - his wife was Elizabeth age 59 born Sussex.

There appear to be 2 of the same name born around the same time / place  ;D

How did you establish that your Thomas had a father George  :-\

The George lived in the same area & Thomas named a son George & a daughter Harriet, after the George & Harriet I suspect were his parents. The birth records I've seen didn't list the parents, so I'm going on who lived where. Nothing else to go on at this point.

I'm researching the Arments who run the pie & mash shop in London. I've got them back to the Thomas born in the 1780's. I also come from Arments & wanted to see if ours connect. That's why I'm wanting to find more info on Thomas & the older George born around 1755. So far, I have Thomas born in Middlesex between 1784-1786. Nothing that flat out says who his parents were but I think it was George & Harriet. They all had connections to Whitechapel.

Thanks for the explanation  ;D

Does the death/burial entry that you have for George in 1825 have an age on it  :-\

Unfortunately no. The record was found in the England & Wales Non-Conformist Records Index 1588-1977. But the Harriet I mentioned before also died in Whitechapel, no birth or age given for her either. May have been wrong about them being parents of Thomas, being it seems they were Quaker & Thomas and his descendants were Anglican, unless he just broke away from the Quakers. Need more info to confirm either way whether he ties in with George & Harriet. He had children by the same name though.

Been awhile since I've posted here, but seeking burial info of George Arment who died on 12 Jul 1850. Death record states he died at Betts Street in Middlesex. This George may be related somehow to the George in the Subject bar, maybe a nephew.

Other burials I'm looking for, which should be in some part of London or Greater London:

William Henry Arment    d. 1893 Middlesex
William Peter Arment    d. 1931 Southwark

(Rosie, where did you find the burial for George, was it Ancestry or another website?)

William Henry's death was registered at Edmonton RD.

Possible cemeteries here but the council charge for look-ups

https://new.enfield.gov.uk/services/births-deaths-and-marriages/cemeteries/cemeteries/

Southwark council have put their records onlne at www.deceasedonline.com

There's no entry for William Peter so you'll have to look further afield.

Thanks guys. Gives me a good bit to read over & look into. I found William Peter & father William James, both in Tower Hamlets Cemetery. William Henry might be there, but I dont know. William Peter had a son William James, who died in 1993, any chance I can find his burial place online or any info regarding a possible cremation? I remember talking to someone who said most people are cremated after a certain year, & deaths/burials arent available to the public beginning a certain year, so i dont have alot of faith I'll find anything on him. He was married to a Rita Coats.

Try contacting bereavement services

They will most probably ask you for an exact date of death
