Rhayader to 1933 - Radnorshire West I believe after 1933 ...

Thanks Dawnsh and Lostis,
I m pretty sure its Rhayder or Radnorshire West but unfortunately the search facility for the 1939 register  isn't playing ball!

are you searching for it as the two words as Dawnsh suggests ?

I did try, also as three words as it is occasionally written Abbey cwm hir but it is normally all one word. I know the area quite well and names of farms etc and possible surnames of the time but its not working ??? Could it be in Knighton R D perhaps.

The 1939 Register isn't based on Registration Districts!

It's based on the Borough and District Councils that existed in 1939.

but if the area is rural and you're looking for a house that only has a name not a street attached to it, you won't find it without a family name.

The indexing of rural areas can be pretty poor

Yes, I think you are right, it is very rural,I have tried surnames and names of houses, I wonder if they were missed, though I would nt have thought so. I have asked Findmypast for possible help .
Thanks everyone for looking :)

Unless they went into the armed services, they should be listed as long as they were born before 1915. They should be listed as the register was used to issue identity cards and ration books.

Were they away from home 26th September 1939 when the forms were collected?

Good luck with FindMyPast,  :-\ they couldn't help with my query about rural addresses not being found.

It might be a case of checking back regularly to see if they turn up at a later date as FindMyPast sort out the errors in transcriptions and open more records for those they identify in the death index.

Hi again,
Just to say the village has been found, under Rhayader R D, thanks to fellow member  Alltcafan who sent me a pm.
