Title: Grandad Alexander Malcolm Truelove DOB 21/8/1915
Post by: pollypringle on Tuesday 01 March 16 18:29 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to find my grandad (deceased) I have his date of birth confirmed by the MOD but I can't find a birth certificate for him and I've put in searches using just his first names and just surname but I just can't find anything. Any advice or reason I can't find a birth certificate?
His name is Alexander Malcolm Truelove DOB 21/8/1915
A few years after my fathers birth he disappeared so my father has no memories of other relatives and nothing was heard until we found his death cert from 1981

There is no full match on Scotlands People births using Truelove but it shows one match in 1915 to a birth for an Alexander Malcolm.

Did he marry Edna Potter in Birmingham in 1941?

If so, getting the marriage cert to see who he names as father may help trace him back.

Don't know if we are allowed to publish info from the 1939 Register, but you will find him on it  in Birmingham.

until we found his death cert from 1981

There is no death recorded in 1981 but there is an Alexander Truelove death in the June qtr 1982 in South Glamorgan- no middle name and no birthdate.  GRO index shows age unknown

There is only one Stephen Truelove marriage in a likely time frame - 1907 in Warwickshire to Georgina Maria L Tyacke.  That Stephen only died 1949 so was alive when Alexander married in 1941

Only one son born to the marriage after 1911 when mothers maiden names were shown - 1913 - John T

Any occupation shown for Stephen on the 1941 marriage cert?

Who were the witnesses?

Sorry 1982 death
I have his results from the 1939 register and they don't really shed any light.
The Alexander Malcolm on the Scotland page is a possibility as he is illegitimate I suppose he could of been adopted out it shows his birthdate as March 22nd but the mod said his birth certificate is 21/8 would a new birth cert of been issued to adoptive parents then?
No occupation for his father and the witnesses to the marriage are relatives to Edna's

We have a letter from the MOD saying confirmation of birth date and place 21/8/15 Cardiff glamorganshire.
The 1945 electoral roll showing him living around the corner from a Frederick Truelove & my father has a very vague recollection of visiting a relative with him when he was about 4-5  in that area (my father was put into a children's home and his father visited him a handful of times)
Thank you for your help it is much appreciated

Hi

What's the significance of MOD? Ministry of Defence?

Children's home? What happened to his mother?

1945? Where?

We have a photograph of my grandad wearing an army uniform so my aunt some years ago wrote to them who sent a letter back with the confirmation of his date of birth details. My father & siblings were put into erdington cottage homes Birmingham and then my grandmother moved away and went on to have 3 more children who were put up for adoption, she later moved back and the children had contact with her.
The electoral register was Birmingham in 1945

Who he is living with in 1945?  Or the 1939 register? Does the age there tally with the 1915 yr of birth?

Not seeing a marriage on freebmd in that area for those dates to support this.

Where has this info come from?

The Swansea Frederick Truelove (as per the 1901 census referred to earlier) seems to marry in Swansea area and die there. No evidence he goes to the Midlands.

Marriage
Jan/Feb/Mar 1921
Swansea
Ref 11a 2218
Frederick Truelove / Gladys M King

Death
Sep 1947
Swansea
Ref 8b 548
Frederick Truelove age 51

Probate index
Frederick Truelove of 12 Caeriethen Villas Fforesrfach Swansea died 31 Aug 1948 Admin 23 April 1952 to Gladys MAy Clarke (wife of James Thomas Clarke)   Effects £623 - 9s

Whoops just noticed death date on that Admin notice is a year later than the death from index.....

Her remarriage
Ap/May/Jun 1950
Swansea
ref 8b 1271
Gladys M Truelove / James T Clarke

So - are we now trying to find this Frederick Truleove, and Edith Maud Truelove who were neighbours of Alexander Malcolm Truelove in Birmingham?

If so, we can discount the Swansea one, who died in 1947/8.

Title: Re: Grandad
Post by: pollypringle on Thursday 03 March 16 10:50 GMT (UK)
Because my dad remembers visiting someone in that area it seemed coincidental that there were other Trueloves as neighbours so I was trying to find some sort of connection or am I grasping at straws?
Title: Re: Grandad
Post by: lizdb on Thursday 03 March 16 10:51 GMT (UK)
Aha

Marriage
Jan/Feb/Mar 1916
Birmingham
Ref 6d 413
Ethel M Kelly (spouse Truelove)    ..but none listed on link

However
Marriage
Jan/Feb/Mar 1916
Birmingham
Ref 6d 413
Frederick Truelovet / Ethel M Kelly

slip of someone's finger typing up the index!

So this might be the couple your rellies visited in later years. They must have been quite elderly by then.

Lets see what else we can find out about this couple, and see if it leads anywhere useful!

We really need that marriage cert to ascertain Frederick 's father's name

But this might be him

1901
Birmingham
William Truelove 41
Emily 33
Frederick 6
Lily 4
Clara 3       all bn Birmingham

So no links there to Cardiff?

May be a coincidence but there is a John Kelly living in the same household as Alexander Truelove in 1939. Also Frederick Truelove has a middle initial 's' which could stand for Stephen.

Just adding link to your previous post, pollypringle, in case anything is of use for these new searches here www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=693300.0

On that post, Alexander birth year was given as 1918. Certainly 1915?

Also, from Alexander's marriage entry, you mentioned his father Stephen showing as: Stephen Malcolm truelove, caster, deceased.

Hi! Sorry, I hope this posts ok. I'm searching on behalf of my mother, Kathleen who was born in 1952 (London) to Edna Truelove who was married to Alexander(not her father)
My Mother mentioned her maiden name was Potter. I hope this is not a coincidence and will lead to discovering more about her parentage.
Many thanks,
Jay

I suppose confidentiality would protect the information connected to the NI  number.

However,  there may be a code with the first two letters.
Have a look on Wiki pedia  or google for first two letters of NI number.

I really hope that this will lead to some kind of success. I only found out my Grandmothers name today! My Grandfather is completely unknown. The only information I have about him is that he is Irish.
As my mother is nearly 68, I know it would mean so much to her to find out more about who her mother was and also learn about any siblings that (it seems) she has.
Thank you for your help! :)

That is great news, pollypringle. Thanks for the update  :)

Just having a quick re-read. Did we ever discuss this Frederick Truelove?

Frederick Guy TRUELOVE
Birth date 5 Nov 1893
CARDIFF - 8B/723
Died 4th Qrt 1973

Probate reads: Frederick Guy Truelove, of 3 Waungron Road, Llandaff Cardiff died 24 Dec 1973. Probate Llandaff 5 March 1974. £6095.

There is a birth in Holborn, London that fits: Frederick Guy Truelove 4th Qrt 1893 - Holborn 1b/707

Two possible marriages for a Frederick G Truelove. One in 1918 (Rosser) and one in 1919 to a Gladys E Surtherland. Can't easily see children from either of these marriages. Probable death for Gladys in 1975:

Gladys Elizabeth Truelove
Birthdate: 10 Nov 1891
S Glamorgan 28/1650
Death 1st Qrt 1975

Thank you Monica 😊 I'm not quite sure how Frederick would fit in.
We have found that grandads body was released to a Mr Cosslett (I won't provide first name because I'm not sure if he was living) then my aunt said she has a photo of him in his army uniform spand the name Cosslett written on the back they were living in Wales , so he must have some sort of connection to them, we just can't find out how. It's so frustrating 😞

Fred is on the 1939 with his wife Gladys so the 1919 marriage is the correct one.
