I am new to roots chat. My GG grandmother Margaret Dallas born 1791 in Dungiven married Daniel Kearney in County Derry between 1815-1825. They had 5 sons. Daniel (1826-1872) John (1829-1890) William (1830-1908) Joseph (February 2,1834-1916) and Patrick Francis 1836-1907). They emigrated to the U.S. circa 1842 arriving at the Port of Philadelphia, PA. Daniel was Catholic. Margaret may have been of the Presbyterian faith. Our family appreciates any assistance you can give us. Thank you.

Hi Mojo,
Can you be more specific please with your reason to believe Margaret may have been born in Fife, Scotland as this will help researchers.
Anything you can add will help.
Annie
ADDED....Where/when did she die?

A John Kearney was baptised in Dungiven RC parish on 1 July 1827 for parents Daniel Kearney and Peggy Dallas, also a Joseph Kearney baptised on 29 January 1832 for those same parents in same parish, the address was Bovevagh.

Thank you so much :)

Do you have Margaret in any U.S. census records? if so, what is listed for place of birth? (Ireland or Scotland?)

Margaret (Peggy) Dallas Carney (?Kearney)(1791-1871) is listed in the 1860 U.S. Census with birthplace listed as Ireland. Margaret died in Cambria County, PA USA on 10/13/1871. Her headstone mentions Dungiven, Ireland. Distant relatives insist she was born in Dunfermline, Scotland. According to my copy of Margaret's Will, she wanted money sent to her "sister Sarah in Scotland".

There was always a lot of travel between Ulster and Scotland (especially the west of Scotland) so it may be that she was born in one and lived for a time in the other.

Hi Mojomc,
Did the will give any other details on Sarah such as a placename, a married name etc?
The 1871 census seems to be missing a lot of info. in different places

ADDED...Would be great to find Sarah in Scotland especially if she died there as there is a chance both her parents are named on the cert. if the informant knew those details.
